Too many potential problems. Do you know if it even boots up fully?

First thing I would do is go in and re seat the RAM modules. This typically causes bootup failures and thus, no loading of the monitor drivers, etc.

RAM is located on the bottom of the PC.. one screw. Take out the battery and unplug the unit prior to doing any of this. As well, make sure you are grounded since you do not want to produce an ESD onto the PCB [electro-static discharge onto the printed circuit board [ram].

Borrow a monitor and plug it into the VGA port. That might tell you whether the graphics card is bad.

How do i switch to external monitor

Virtually all IBM and Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkCenter laptops allow you to hook up an additional monitor or projector to the computer. When you add an external monitor or projector to your notebook, you can choose to view the display on the computer, on the external device, or on both the laptop and the external monitor or projector at the same time. Toggling between viewing devices is as simple as pressing a couple of keys on the keyboard.

Shut down the laptop. Plug the VGA monitor cable from the external monitor or projector into the blue VGA port on the back of the computer. Turn on the external monitor or projector first, and then the Lenovo laptop. Allow the notebook to boot into Windows normally. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys at the same time to switch the display from the laptop to the external monitor or projector. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to enable the display on both the laptop and the external display device. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to display screen contents only on the laptop LCD. choose support you need http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54305.html http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4YQHUC.html enable tv out on thinkpad http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58625

Pc switching on but lines on screen only

If you can't see anything - even the text from BIOS when it boots, I would suspect that it is probably the monitor. If the PC USED to boot fine, then suddenly started behaving this way it is very possibly either the monitor or the signal to the monitor.

You didn't say if the PC is a desktop or a laptop. If it is a laptop, try to find an external monitor to connect to. Of course, in most cases laptops require that you switch them to a dual monitor mode, which will be difficult if you don't see anything on the main monitor.

Is the a Windows machine? What version of the OS are you running? Have you made any changes to the system?

Also: be sure that if you are using an external monitor, the cable is seated fully and tightened down.

I buy vga to rca and s video cable to conect toshiba laptop to tv and dont show grafic options how ican make work

There is a button to switch from laptop monitor to external monitor or can view on both monitors. There is a button with a drawing of two monitors, usually the F5 button. Press FN and F5 simultaneously to switch from laptop monitor to external monitor. Press them again to view both on laptop and external monitor. Press them again the third time to view only on your laptop monitor.

Laptop comes on but monitor remains black

Hello,

IT could be one of two things. First make sure that you have the laptop set to display on the LCD. Most laptops will have a Function key labeled by Fn then you will need to look at the function keys at the top F1-F12 and find the one that either says CRT/LCD or has a picture of a screen or monitor. Then, after you have found that key, you will need to press and hold the Fn key and tap the appropriate function key, this will alternate between the LCD (laptop) and CRT (monitor). If you have trouble finding the correct key combination for switching displays should be listed in the manual.

If that doesn't correct it, then I would try locating a desktop CRT and connecting it to the monitor connection on the rear of the laptop and again pressing the keys to switch between CRT/LCD. If it shows on the CRT then I would say that the LCD on the laptop is bad.

Thanks

NoteBooks / Laptops

Depending on your laptop model, you may need to press a certain key combination (Fn-F4 or something like that) to enable or switch to the external display.

Look on your laptop's keyboard for a key with a picture that has an L-shaped icon on it (it's supposed to look like an open laptop from the side). Most times you will need to press the Fn or Function key and this key to trigger the monitor switch.
