Doesnt show web pages - PC Desktops

Firefox doesn't open gmail pages, at least, it takes minutes (!) to go from a opened message back to inbox, etc.

Secondly: somehow a trusted site (from the organisation I work for) couldn't be opened, while my pc has a low safety level. (The problem was: I could'nt log in, though Firefox 'rembembers' it.) Also, external links from there, didn't open.
Java script was and is enabled in Firefox, and I used to tweaks to make it open pages quicker. This didn't solve the problem, except that it's actuelly opening sites/pages more quickly, since.
Could there still be a 'fatal' connection between lack of speed (dsl 256) and a safety procedure?

For these reasons, I'm (unwillingly) forced to use IE for these goals.
Since a few days though, also IE refuses to open this same work-site. The only thing that changed is that I downloaded an IE update.
    What is happening?
Are these problems related (FF en IE), or not?
I use an external firewall, built in the connection with our internet server.
    Hope someone has usefull tips!
    HS.

Go to tool-internet options and delete temporary files, cookies and objects. Click on the content tab and clear the SSL state. Also disable any third party firewall like Norton or Mcafee.

Thanks

Find the URL address line in the upper left of your web browser and type in the web page address that you want to look at.
Is this the kind of info you want or something different?
Hope this helps.

Emachine won't connect to the internet. Ethernet cable, router and modem all work just fine. problem is with computer. Check network adapters in device manager and no problem noted there. Why won't it...

first try to check if your wireless can actually detect a network, if it can try to remove ALLthe network that you have on your wireless network and try to add your network again, if still doest work try to uninstall and re install your wireless driver, if it still doesnt work try to restart your router, if still doesnt work try to do system restore to the point where your wireless was workin fine, lastly if still doesnt work try to contact your ISP for some configuration.

check your network cable and make sure you have a solid green light and a flashing amber light. If not replace your cable. IF that doesnt work you may need a new NIC card

Disable windows active desktop then reactivate it. That will take care of it. Microsoft Windows XP users
  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Open the Display icon.
  3. Click the Desktop tab.
  4. Click the Customize Desktop button.
  5. Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check "My Current Home Page". Add your current home page into your desktop or click New to add another web page and/or other Active Desktop features. To update the content, click the Synchronize button.
If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.
Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 users
  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Open the Display icon.
  3. Click the Web tab in the Display Properties window.
If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check the checkbox for "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" and select the home page you wish to use as the active desktop.
If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure that "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" is unchecked.
