The manual tells you the range of your router, but keep in mind that electronic devices and walls can severely reduce it. If your walls are made of stone, even if you are in the next room, it will be a very weak signal.

Usually those have a 25 to 40 meter range....if there is nothing in the way of the signal..i use 20 meters as a rule of thumb..

Were do you get wep or wpa trying to hook up xbox 360 to my wireless router

You need to configure the wireless networking component of the router:
* pick a network-name ('SSID'),
* pick an encryption-level (preferably 'WPA'),
* pick a network-password.

Then, configure your XBOX to use that SSID/password, to connect to your router.

I have a dell Vostro 200..I want to go wireless with a Airport, Just got a Mac with the airport, will this work?

The airport is just a receiver that picks up wireless signals.

If you want your computer to pick up wireless, you need a wireless
router, and a wireless card that goes into the computer so it can see the router and get the signals.

There are tons of wireless products, and it depends on the slots you have on which kind of wireless card you get.

My built in wireless is not working.

There may be button that switches on wireless on the keyboard or on the side of the machine.

Also try the FN key plus the correct Fkey with the wireless symbol

Cant get wirless lap top pick up router

I know it sounds stupid but a lot of people just forget to turn on the wireless switch.

You may want to check first if the router is being picked up by other computers just to eliminate the possibility of a busted router. If no other computers can pick up your Router's signal then it's the router that you need to replace. If other computers can pick up your router's signal, then it's the computer's wireless card that's busted.

If it shows you that you have an excellent signal, the problem is not the router. Unplug the power cable to the modem and plug it back in. If that doesn't work call your ISP.

How do i go wireless with my acer laptop? (my laptop has an ethernet port) how and what does the router connect to?

You will need to purchase a PCMIA Wireless card , it jsut slots into the expansion slots on the side of the laptop , they look like a flat card slot, also the you will need to purchase a Wireless Router / Access point (AP) then plug you router into this , this will send out a wireless signal which you can then configure to pick up on the laptop.

heres a link to a guide i wrote , it will help you in setting up a wireless connection and also a guide on what to purchase.

goodluck :)

My laptop does not pick up signal from a wireless router that has been connected to the main home computers internet service provider.

You are going to have to log into the router and check the wireless settings to make sure that the SSID Broadcast is enabled. If the SSID Broadcast is disabled, the router does not send out a wireless signal.

For information on logging into the router, you will need to refer to the router's manual. This usually can be accomplished by opening your browser and typing http://192.168.1.1 , or whatever the ip address of your router is. You will then need to provide a username and password. I believe the default on most routers is admin / admin. If you do not have the router manual, provide me with the make and model of your router and I will search for it.
