Re: Do i need software for my video cam to connect to my...
YES YOU WILL NEED THE SONY SOFTWARE TO CONNECT YOUR CAM TO YOUR COMPUTER. IF YOU BOUGHT THE SONY NEW, THE SOFTWARE SHOULD HAVE COME WITH THE CAMERA. I BELIEVE SONY CALLS IT THEIR "PICTURE PACKAGE SOFTWARE" AND IT IS USUALLY ON A CD. IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT, TRY GOING TO THE SONY SITE AND SEE IF YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT DIRECT FROM THEM. MOST LIKELY YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND THE NECESSARY SOFTWARE YOU NEED. HOPE THIS HELPS POINT YOU TO THE SOURCE. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, JUST REPLY AND WE'LL WORK ON SOME OTHER IDEAS. IF YOU REPLY, LET ME KNOW YOUR COMPUTER AND ANY PHOTO SOFTWARE PROGRAMS YOU HAVE NOW. OK? GOOD LUCK!

To get the videos on your PC you will need a firewire cable to connect (USB is not working for videos on this model). plug it in, Open up windows movie maker, click 'capture from
video device' Choose your cam, Click next, Choose best quality, Make
sure ur cam is set too playback mode, Click play on your cam and start
capture then click stop capture when finished. No other software is required.
You can have as many cams as you want you simply choose which one you want from the program you use..Install the software that came with the camera, reboot, then. when at desktop next, Just plug in the "New" camera into a USB port, and wait a bit, you should hear a dong-dong and then reboot. Now next time you are at desktop you can open your newly installed software and setup the camera and you should be soon be seeing yourself.. or whatever.
you will be able to find a data cable and installation disc that came along with your product. install the software from the disc to your pc. one end of the data cable will be in USB type, connect it to the pc and the other end to the cam. you can refer the instruction manual to connect it(manual also present in the disc as soft copy). now after you connected the cam to the pc, switch it on and you will be able to see an icon on the mycomputer screen. enter into that icon's window and you will be able to see the images or videos, which you can copy and paste in the pc.the software is used as an additional works such as organizing, adding music to photo collection etc. so this works even if the software is not installed.
Are you connecting to the camera with a USB cable? Many camcorders will not allow you to transfer video over the USB interface. Video transfer often requires a Firewire connection and software. You'll need a Firewire cable (sometimes called a DV cable).
If you computer is reasonably new it most likely will have a Firewire port. If not, you'll need to install a Firewire PCI card.
The software I use is called Scenalyzer. There are other options, but Scenalyzer has a free demo you can try. You can download the software here:
