Mandrake 7.1 on compaq presario 12XL222 Problem to...

By Grant - usenet poster

Hello,

I installed the linux Mandrake 7.1 on compaq presario 12XL222 but I have
some problems to configure Xwindows.
I have a video card "Trident Cyberblade 3D"
I use XFdrak to create XF86config file and I choose as screen "LCD 800x600"
but unsuccessfully.

An Idea would be welcome.

Regards

Gerard, I solved a problem with my Compaq Presario 12XL300 using the same
chipset. I put an explicit "Chipset cyberblade" line in /etc/XF86Config
immediately before the "Videoram" line, and it started working. I'm using
800x600 at a 40 MHz clock, and it's doing what I want it to do at that
resolution.

Mine reports an 8-bit wide lookup table, but other than that it's
word-for-word.

I didn't have that option; Windows doesn't live here.

The error I got was when the section of /etc/.XF86Config looked like this:

|# Device configured by xf86config:
|
|Section "Device"
| Identifier "Trident CyberBlade (generic)"
| VendorName "Unknown"
| BoardName "Unknown"
| #VideoRam 4096
| # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
|EndSection

The X server would give me this output:

XFree86 Version 3.3.6 / X Window System

[normal startup stuff snipped]

XF86Config: /etc/XF86Config
(**) stands for supplied, (--) stands for probed/default values
(**) XKB: disabled
(**) XKB: keymap: "xfree86(us)" (overrides other XKB settings)
(**) Mouse: type: PS/2, device: /dev/mouse, buttons: 3
(**) Mouse: 3 button emulation (timeout: 50ms)
(**) SVGA: Graphics device ID: "Trident CyberBlade (generic)"
(**) SVGA: Monitor ID: "My Monitor"

(**) FontPath set to "[snip]"
(--) SVGA: PCI: Trident Unknown chipset (0x8520) rev 106, Memory @ 0xf5000000, 0xf4100000

(--) SVGA: Maximum allowed dot-clock: 80.000 MHz
(--) SVGA: There is no defined dot-clock matching mode "800x600"

Fatal server error:
No valid modes found.

[snip remainder]

but when I edited the same section to read:

|# Device configured by xf86config:
|
|Section "Device"
| Identifier "Trident CyberBlade (generic)"
| VendorName "Unknown"
| BoardName "Unknown"
| Chipset "CyberBlade"
| #VideoRam 4096
| # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
|EndSection

it ran fine at 800x600x16M.

If that didn't help then I'm afraid I've just run out of ideas. Sorry.

First, thanks for this advice.
I have just tried it but unsuccessfully.
I tried the command " SuperProbe" and the result is :
-

First video: Super-VGA
Chipset: Trident (chipset unknown) PCI Probed
Signature data: 85201023 (please report)
memory: 2048 Kbytes

RAMDAC: Sierra SC1148{2,3,4} 15-bit orSC1148{5,7,9}
15/16-bit Hicolor
(with 6-bit wide lookuptable (or in 6-bit mode)
-

Windows 98 see the chipset Trident CyberBlade i1 AGP(77)

An other idea please ?

Regards

Gerard
