Question about Canon Printers & Copiers

1 Answer

I have a Canon ip4000. My problem is that no matter how many times I clean and/or deep clean the print head, the 3eblk cartridge is not printing. I've tried changing the ink cartridge but it hasn't helped

The print head may be faulty and in need of replacement.

If there is dirt or dry ink clogging the print head, then you will need to remove the printhead and soak it overnight in printer cleaning solution , or in isopropyl alcohol.
Alternatively you may use a cleaning cartridge to unclog the printhead.
If that does not work the printhead must be replaced.

Regarding the cleaning procedure, you can leave the printhead in cleaning solution or isopropyl acohol overnight.
This procedure does not always work, as the solution normally does not penetrate inside the pipes getting to the printhead.
    See this website.

you are sure the printhead is faulty, you can use a cartridge filled
with distilled water, or better, with printer claner and use the
cartridge to clean the printhead. See an example here: Print head cleaner,.

If you decide to replace the printhead contact Epson for the part: Printer Accessories - By Epson - Replacement Parts or try Celtronics, Inc. Brother Parts, Citizen Parts, Epson Parts

Only prints black ink text; cartridges full and good.

Run head cleaning and deep head cleaning for few times. If it doesnt help, you can try to remove print head, and clean the nozzles with distiled water.
And after that also run few times head cleaning mode.

All of the ink cartridges are full, but the printing comes out very pink.

do the deep head cleaning for few times, it will drain some amount of ink but should work. After each cleaning check the printed nozzle pattern.
PS head cleaning is under printer properties-maintenance.

hope that helped

The other week I had the black print head clog up, requiring daily nozzle deep cleaning [a normal 'ocassional' maintenance function]. Thought I needed a new Print head, so anything worth a try.
I loaded up an old black cartridge [I load all my own......always have] with Isopropyl Alcohol and ran deep clean on that cartridge a couple of times, then repeat printed [6 times] a page full of the number 8 in about half inch character size, to get the alcohol through the nozzles. then Deep cleaned again 3 times, to wash it through the print head.

I reloaded the normal ink filled cartridge and ran the '8' page again till I got good black output. It has now been working without problem, daily, for over a week. Clearly if it's a Magenta only problem, the cleaning as described above would be a bit different, as the magenta is one of 4 colour cartridges.
My printer does quite a lot of work, and was bought at least a couple of years ago, being used daily for alpha numeric and photo printing work. This was the first difficulty I experienced with it.
Hope the above might help.Ken

Colours are not true, grey is brown

You are getting leakage from one color cartridge to another. Do deep cleaning and run nozzle check. You may have been using non-Cannon inks. They can corrode the ink cartridge seats due to inferrior quality ink. You may need to replace the print head. Check out Cannon web site under this printer support. Print head is in the $50 neighborhood.

Print head remains clogged canon pixma iP 4000

I have successfully managed to clean the print head with isopropyl alcohol by placing a flexible plastic tube over the cartridge seat, filling the tube partially with the alcohol, then blowing very hard through the tube. The alcohol does not appear to harm anything.
