Battery exhausted warning and eats new duracell without even starting!!

My GE A730 is giving me tons of problems! first off i see a battery exhausted sign even when i put in new batteries. (alkaline) to make things worst the camera does not even start properly and the new batteries are totally exhausted without even staying on long enough to take a picture. Are these models the worst designs when it comes to power usage or is there something really wrong with my camera? if so plz tell me what needs to be done in order to remedy the problem. Thanks!!

I have the pink version of this camera and it was working fine up until the end of Aug. of this year. I recieved it last year as a Christmas gift and now it's like eating the batteries. Even if i put new batteries in, twenty minutes later it's dead. It always gives me the warning of Battery Exhausted. I'm not sure what to do or what I can do about this problem. I do like the camera but its a pain having to change the batteries every 20 minutes.

My camera does the exact same thing. I feel as though I could buy all the new batteries in the world and it will eat them automatically. It might take a few pictures with a new set of batteries, but then it says they are exhausted and it will not take new pictures until new batteries are put in. Then the same thing happens all over again!

Actually I have this camera and one that didn't stay on without fresh batteries every few minutes was given to me to tinker with. It is a software problem and if you are patient and follow the directions exactly...a simple firmware upgrade should resolve this issue for you.
Go to: http://www.general-imaging.com/us/firmware.html
Locate the blue box on the left that says QUICK LINKS and then click on FIRMWARE UPGRADES and locate your camera model. I hope this is helpful.

There is something very wrong! is this camera under warranty, if so you should get in touch with them.To drain your battery that quick would have to be a short in the primary circuit.

Why not try a set of rechargeable batteries? they can be used 5 times as long as alkaline batteries, every time you charge them. And when you have charged them yourself you can be sure they doe have the capacity needed for the camera. There is no way of telling alkaline batteries are full, because even when they are exhausted they will give the same voltage on your multimeter as a new battery.
I don't think it has to do with the date battery, because that would show you the date / time menu on the display.

My problem with the camera is it eats batteries like crazy. I put new duracel batteries on Friday and didn't use the camera that day and took 11 pictures saturday and the batteries were dead. I have have ...

on the side of some of the battery manufacture they print a date. Make sure that even though you purchased new batteries that they are in deed new to that date. Some stay in stock or on shelves for long times. If you have a battery tester and can test the battery is good, then you know your camera has a drain. Check the manufacture of the cameras web site for firmware updates or recalls, either of which are important. A last note, dont leave batteries in this unit as if it is using power it can overheat in a bag and possibly start fire. Duracel also has an 800 number where you can call and send in the batteries and the camera and they will help replace or fix the camera if this is the case. Scroll all the way to the bottom to read the guarentee http://www.duracell.com/en-US/battery-care-disposal.jspx
Most Duacells are rated to last for 7 years when not used

I keep getting "Battery Exhausted" messages, with new batteries

you have to use only very good quality batteries ...I have a philips..and if I do not put alcaline quality bateries in it ..it do not even power up ....and even with this expensive ones it eats 'em like snacks...
by the way ...keep the batteries inside only when you shoot cause all this new cameras with display and so ...consumes the batteries even when they are powered off ..
my advise is to buy some accumulators the kind you charge on the home power plug.....so in this way .. you will always have strong power into them ..and the cost its worthily ..

Battery exhausted warning

Hello justplainles:

Do the others show the same problem?

Try this: RESET ALL in the menu or setup menu.
If that does not work, make sure that the in the menu (if it is there) you set the battery type to rechargeable not alkaline .
You may try alkaline batteries, if it does the same, the camera may need repair.

Some cameras will not set the battery type automatically.
