Question about Troy Computers & Internet

Open Question

87.002a EIO2 error

We have a Troy check printer and it has worked fine up to now. The display gives the following error: 87.002a EIO2 error. When this error is listed, you can not print checks. Once you turn the printer off and back on, it prints the checks and list itself as ready. After a little time passes (1-2 hours) it displays the error once again.

What do we do? HELP?

Thanks. My laptop can see the print server, as I see all my documents in the queue. (and I can also successfully ping the print server). It appears the HP LaserJet 1020 is just not supported... Looks like a return is in my future. Thanks. Digger

It seems that I found an imperfect solution. When you intall the printer on your PC and print a testpage, the firmware is sent from PC to printer and is stored in the printers internal memory. When you unplug your printer from your pc and plug it in on your printserver it should work fine as the firmware has been loaded alraedy. You can't switch of the printer nor the printserver or the firmware needs to be uploaded again via your printer. There is no way at the moment to load the firmware upon booting of the printer by the print server. Hopefully this issue will get resolved in the near future.

SOURCE: Issues Printing with DPR-1260

This worked for me and I was having the same issues as everyone.

http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2705&question=DPR%2D1260+vista

Before I put this solution in (manually adding the printer step-by-step), I could print a test page just fine, but not anything from Office.

Make sure to follow each step in order. I printed off the test page and held it up to the old one and the only thing I saw different was a field named "Shared". It was blank but who knows. I'm just happy the darn thing is working!

SOURCE: Jetdirect 170x External Print Server Not Visible over network

it is possiable that a firewall is in the way, but more likely is that you are on a different logical network or subnet.
the HP software relies upon doing a broadcast to find HP printers, broadcast traffice is not normally permitted between subnets, this is why the HP software does not find your printer.

basically you need to creat a new port on the computer in question and then associate a printer to that port.

do so by doing the following on XP pro.
get to the printers folder then click from the menu "File"
click "server properties"

click add port and then double click on the (Standard TCP/IP Port) a new wizard opens click next
in the top box enter the ip address of your printer. and click next. leave the device type as "Standard and as generic network card) click next then finish. then close.

now you have to link your printer to your new port.
install a new printer
making sure that you select local printer... but removing the tick "Automatically detect......" then click next and select LPT port 1.
click next choose HP on the left colum and HP lasterJet III from the right colum. click next give the printer a name of your choosing. and if nesseary choose if you want it to be a default printer or not.
click next and leave do not share selected.
click next
on the "do you want to print a test page " select "No"
then finish.

once done

right click you new printer select properties
then select the "Ports" tab
scroll down the list until you see new Standard TCP/IP port listed, select your port. then click apply

lastly click the advanced tab
using the driver part of this screen you are able to select the correct driver from the dropdown list if it is not avaliable click the new driver button and follow the prompts.

click OK when done.

hope this helps.

Hp 2100 lazer jet printer will not print with new laptop vista

Many drivers that were supported by X are not supported by Vista. Suggestion to solve this and the numerous problems you will encounter is to revert to XP. Untill then, do the following.

Remove printer
1. Click the "Start" button, type PRINTER in the search box and press Enter.
2. Find the icons which are related to HP LaserJet 2100, and delete them.
3. Right-click on the blank part of the window, and choose "Run as administrator"->"Server Properties".
4. On the Drivers tab, select the listed printer and click the Remove button. Please then select Remove driver and driver package.
5. Open Start menu, input APPWIZ.CPL in the Search box and press ENTER to launch "Programs and Features".
6. Try to remove all related printer software.
Then, please download the latest drivers from the following website and install.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=14914&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25469&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2093

If the above steps do not work, please follow the steps below to clear Printing Subsystem and reinstall the driver again.
Click "Start", type "regedit" in Research Bare and press "Enter". Browse to the following registry key by clicking the PLUS (+) sign:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

Click the PLUS (+) sign to expand Printers key. All current printers installed on your computer are listed there. Please right click each subkey in it on the left pane and click "Delete".

Step 2. Browse to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NTx86\Drivers\Version-3

Click the PLUS (+) sign to expand "Version-3". All printer drivers which have been installed on your computer will be listed there. Please right click each subkey in it on the left pane and click "Delete".

Step 3:
===============================

Locate and then expand the following registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors

View the list of subkeys. There should only be the following subkeys for the default print monitors:
BJ Language Monitor

Local Port
PJL Language Monitor
Standard TCP/IP Port
USB Monitor

If there are any subkeys other than the subkeys that are listed above has to be deleted. To do this, right-click each subkey that is not on the list, and then click Delete. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the deletion.

Step 4:
===============================

Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard.

Go to safe mode.

Open "My Computer" and browse to the folder:

Go to the Following folder
(i) C:\Windows\System32\spool\prtprocs\w32x86
(ii) C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers
(iii) C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86

And then delete all the files and the folders in the following 3 folders.

Check Whether the Spooler services is Working Properly.
Then try to install the latest Windows Vista driver again.

Hope it helps

I have a HP 2200 Printer with a hp jetdirect 615n model j6057a Iam unable to get the printer to tell me the mac address. Help to locate MAC another way.

If you know the IP of the printer & the printer is connected to the network, try pinging the IP address of the printer.
After that, open a command prompt & type the following command then press Enter:
arp -a
This will display the arp cache on your computer. Check the list & find your printer's IP, & opposite to it, you will find its MAC address listed.

D Link DP301U not working with a Canon MXF series printer

dont' worry about what the d-link site says. its because they haven't tested it. i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

1. install printer locally via usb and test.
2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
5. test print. should work fine.

cheers!!

Netgear ps121 won't print

Possible reason why you cannot print with the print server is because the computer is not getting a valid IP from the router or a firewall is installed in the computer. You have to disable all firewalls installed in the computer.

For the print server setup, please follow the steps below:

Note: Before setting up the print server, make sure that you can print when printer is connected directly to the computer.

1. Wire the print server to router. Check the lights on it. It should have the ACT light on and the Error light off.

2. One way to test if the printer would work with the print server is to reset the print server for 3 to 5 seconds while it is powered on and after you release the button, the printer should automatically print the IP address of the print server.

Note: If the printer did not print, there is a possibility that they are not compatible. However, you may still continue to try to set up the print server.

3. Install the PS121 software.

a. Power on your computer, let the operating system boot up completely, and log in as needed.
b. Insert the Resource CD for the PS121 into your CD-ROM drive. The CD main page shown at the right will load.
c. Click Install Software.
d. Click Next and follow the software installation utility prompts to complete the software installation.
e. When prompted, restart your computer to complete the installation.
f. When your computer restarts, click Finish to run the Print Server Setup Wizard.

4. Run the Print Server Setup Wizard to Set Up a Fixed IP Address for the PS121.

a. The Print Server Setup Wizard screen should be displayed.
b. Click Next to proceed. The Print Server Wizard will now search your network for the PS121. If the Print Server Setup Wizard cannot find your PS121, check the network connections and status lights on the PS121.
c. The “Server Name” and the “IP Address” your network assigned to the PS121 are displayed. Click Next to proceed to the device name screen.
d. You can enter a descriptive Device Name and Domain Name or accept the defaults. Click Next to proceed to the IP Address configuration screen. The Print Server Wizard displays a recommended static IP address setting for the PS121. This is usually fine.
e. Click Next to proceed.
f. Click Finish to exit the Print Server Setup Wizard. This completes the configuration of the PS121 for operation on your network.
g. Click Yes to run the Add Printer Port Wizard. Follow the instructions in the next section for using the this wizard to set up each computer to use the PS121.

To set up each computer to use the PS121, please follow the instructions below:

1. Use the NETGEAR Add Printer Wizard to set up each PC to use the PS121.
a. When the Print Server Setup Wizard finishes, you are prompted to run the Add Printer Port Wizard. Click Yes to proceed. Alternatively, from the Windows Start menu NETGEAR Print Server program group, you can run the NETGEAR Add Printer Wizard.
b. After a short delay while the software searches the network for your PS121, the Printer Select window opens and displays the PS121 you have set up.
c. Click Next to proceed to the Port/Printer name screen. Take note of the printer model number listed.

2. Set up the correct printer driver for the printer port.
a. Click Next to proceed to the Port/Printer name screen. Take note of the printer model number listed.
b. Click Next to proceed to the Select Printer screen. If you see the exact printer model number listed as the printer model number from in the previous screen, click it to select it from the list.
c. If prompted, print a test page to verify operation of the printer and the PS121. Then, close any remaining Add Printer Port Wizard or Windows Add Printer Wizard windows.

Use the NETGEAR PS121 Mini Print Server Resource CD to run the Add Printer Port Wizard to set up each PC on you network that you want to use with the PS121. Select the port you added
