Medion mim2120 Wireless Problems

On my Medion Mim2120 laptop, I installed Vista onto it from Windows XP, but i found a problem. my Wireless Connection just doesnt seem to be working. its as if my laptop doesnt know that there is a Wireless reciever built into my latop. i know how to activate my wireless (Fn + F1) because i have been using it for a years but now everytime i try to turn it on nothing happens, the laptop makes a bleep an the light saying that my wireless is on stays on but still nothing happens. I tried re-installing the previous Windows (Back to XP) hoping to reverse the problem somehow, an still nothing has changed. my Wireless reciever still isnt working. I personally believe it could have something to do with the drivers because my sound isnt working either :(
in other words, i wanna be able to get connected back onto my wireless internet but i dont have the options to do so, the "Connect To >" tab also isnt appearing anymore :(

Any Help or Guidence into solving this problem would be greatly apprieciated!

I had similar problem with Medion WIN 2140. The harddrive crashed, I bought a new drive and had to reinstall Windows from scratch since I had neither a backup or burned the reinstallation CD's. First I installed Windows7 and every driver/application/BIOS available from Medion's download site. At first my WIFI worked OK but somtime during the process og BIOS/driverupdate my WIFI antenna turned off. The antenna can be turned on/off with a easy access button (touchpad to the right of powerbutton) but WIFI button dows not work.

Medion's danish supporters told me that Windows7 is unsupported. So I had to reinstall using Vista. Still not able to turn on WIFI. I'm pretty sure that BIOS prior to version 1.0K (dated 06.01.2010) had a "ON" possibility but is now limited to "OFF" og "LAST STATE".

Medion support wouldn't og couldn't provide me a previous version of the BIOS. In fact Medion DK's support doesn't seem to know anything about their products.

However I have found the solution myself. Launch Manager application is needed for Easy Access buttons to work. Current version 1.5.0.5 of the application is faulty. In registry i found that pressed keys call the file fn.exe, this file is not a part of the OS, Launch Manager or any other Medion driver/application.

I googled for and found the prevoius version 1.4.9 of Launch Manager. This version works without any problems on both Vista and Windows7.
http://www1.medion.de/downloads/?op=search&lang=au&type=TEXT&Param=

I wrote to Medion support to replace the faulty application on their support site. But with my current Medion experience i daught they will do anything about it. So instead I post this reply to help others.

Sounds like the drivers right enough.... the Fn + F1 incorporates a little peice of software called Launch Manager which operates all the different additional keystrokes and buttons on different manufacturers' Laptops.....

I have a few questions to ask however :

    - How sure are you that the Wireless Router/Access Point in your house/office is Broadcasting it's signal (aka SSID?). If it's not broadcasting and isn't in use by any other Laptops/devices, then all the messing around with your laptop isn't going to make much difference I'm afraid! You would need to tackle this at the source and re-read the manual that came with your Router/Access Point.

If you think it's the drivers :

    - Press and hold Windows key then press PAUSE on your keyboard and release both keys, this will bring up the System Properties page

    - Click on the Hardware Tab and then select Device Manager

    - From the list of equipment shown, review the Network Controller section (click the + to expand) and ensure there's an entry in there saying something like "Intel Wireless Adapter card" or something with Wireless in the title

    - If the little icon to the left of it shows a little yellow exclaimation mark, then your driver has a problem or the equipment itself could have an issue

I have one of these laptops in for repair just now so I'm lucky enough to be able to offer the correct drivers for it if you require them. Please feel free to get back in touch should you need them.

Good luck & all the best,

    Kind Regards,
    John Houston

You need to purchase a external wireless adapter. Should come with a disk with all the drivers. You should be able locate wireless router ( network). If not you should maybe check router making sure it working properly. Check your connections.Good luck

I have HP Officejet 6500 connected via USB to office desktop. I also need print from vista laptops on the same wireless network as the desktop. How do you do it ?

Hi, I just completed this same query this week.

to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.

After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.

I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps

Laptop powers on, but windows doesnt load

Boot PC from Windows XP installation CD you will be ask to instal fresh copy or repair existing installation - go for "fresh copy" software will analyze you PC and try to find your previous copy of Win XP you will be ask again to repair copy of your existing Windows Xp now go for "Repair" option so installation software restore all Windows files and will keep all your settings*.
This solution is only temporary because IE 7 and 8 will no longer work after restoring - backup all your data and instal fresh copy of Win XP after all and always keep Your Backup up to date!!

How do I fit wireless card into medion mim2120 laptop?

I assume you mean "wi-fi" wireless access. The easy solution if wireless networking wasn't built in is to use a USB wireless adapter that simply plugs in to any USB connector on the laptop. These adaptors are available at retailers where you can buy computers as well as from many online sources. The adapter will come with any software and installation instructions you need.

Please take a moment to give this solution a fixya rating if it has been what you needed, and thanks for asking here!

Recovery of xp

The safemode may not be accessable probably because you have the Other Gadgets connected to the comp.
Turn Comp off...
Remove every thing(except Keyboard,mouse,monitor& power.)
Then Keep Tapping F8 to enter "advanced screen options menu".
***If the safemode would not enter then enter the safemode with command Prompt.
***Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
*** Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
if all this do not work and the OS is an OEM then the manufacturer of this computer should have a to Recovery the OS by formatting the comuter.

I believe on the medion you have there may be a switch on the front or side to turn on the wireless. That or FN key and F1.

Updates not installing

I have found, depending on the update, that downloading them manually to your desktop, then installing them from there usally does the trick. Just write down the KB number of the update and go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx and download.
