Microwave energy stems from a high voltage (HV) component called the magnetron. Other HV devices include the diode. Either one of these are at fault and the energy required to excite the water molecules (typically what a microwave does) cannot get through the proper circuit in which to excite those molecules.

Cheaper to purchase a new uWave than to have it fixed unless it is a built in, over the stove unit.

After 5 years of service, there could have been a magnetron failure but the door interlock (latch) could have failed which would acccount for the turntable failure.

Microwave seems to run, but won't heat.

We have a similar problem! It sounds like a problem with the microswitch inside the unit that the door is suppose to engage when closed. If not engaged properly, it will not cook. We had the switch replaced last March but it has started acting up again. We can press in on the door and/or lift it slightly and it will cook. Try putting time on the counter and hit start. It the word "cook" appears then try moving the door slightly and see if the turntable starts turning. If not, then you may have a more serious problem. Good luck!

Microwave has power turn table works won't heat hotpoint model rvm1435bd 001

Check your door satey interlock switches.

If these switches fail (do you open the door while the machine is cooking?), the microwave doesnt know the door is shut and will not turn on the magnatron.

If you need more help, let me know.

Does not heat up

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food. Since the table doesn't turn also, then you may just have a loose wire which you would need to open to check for.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron and the table is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Do you cook a lot of popcorn?

Do you place your food items in the center of the turntable as opposed to placing them off-center?

Both can cause repeated heating of the same spot on the turntable, which can stress it and allow it to crack.

You can buy replacement parts here.

I suggest that when you cook popcorn, place a paper plate or two upside-down under the bag and always place your food items off-center on the turntable tray.

Once you have the new parts, I would suggest at least a quick heat test. That is to heat one cup of water on high and it should boil in about 2 to 2-1/2 minutes.

If you would like to perform a more standard heat test, please see my Ask Mr. Microwave page.

If your magnetron is indeed running too hot, then it is probably dying. Sometimes - like a star - they can burn hotter right before they die.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
