Camera reads card error when trying to formatt it plus the card cannot be detected by the com[puter

i have a fujifilm digital camera with a resoluton of 2mega pixels and after i had tried to switch it on using an adapter it just started displaying CARD ERROR,ny attempts to reset it or formatt it were futile.also when i connected it to the computer via a USB cable the crd could not be detected by the computer.
