An audible noise is a definite indication that you have some type of hardware malfunction (broken or misaligned part).  if you feel confident enough in your skills you can try and locate the problem yourself, however unless you have done this several hundred times before i do not recommend it.  first i would suggest that you hit the HP site and find the authorized service locations in your area, call them and find out how much they charge for out of warranty work and how much it will take to have them look at it.  then weigh is the printer worth the investment, or would it be cheaper simply to replace the defective device.  good luck.

HP 8600 makes clicking noise takes long time to start printing

Found a misfed page jammed inside the printer on far
right side ( by the ink service station) - after removing the
"hidden" wad, the printer no longer makes "clicking" sounds
and prints right away!

Where is the battery on 7140xi

It's on the main logic pcb on the right side. You have to remove the back cover, unplug the scanner cables, remove the scanner and top cover and then the right side cover. The battery is on the circuit board on the inside side, so you have to remove the board to see it.

Printer problem

Mine does the same thing, it appears to be a scanner sensor that has failed. The machine starts by lighting up the scanner, then moving out of park position, then repeatedly trying to move it back into the parked position. It appears to be a sensor that is not working, and needs a part replacement.

Officejet 7140xi print problem

Try getting the printer to re-initialize itself, also make sure that the copper contacts on the cartridge and printhead are clean.
You may be able to fix this issue by unplugging the unit while it is on and holding the # and 6 while plugging the unit back in (semi full NVM reset)

Scanner failure

All over the web the concensus seems to be disassembly and cleaning bulb, mirros and/or the glass and a calibration strip. Mine has the same error, and I'm gonna try the cleaning those locations. This forum mentioned a disassembly procedure for the D145, I hope it's the same for the 7100 series (7140XI) I'll post back my success.
