Hello,

You need to install the softeware first with the printer unplugged from the computer!

Insert your softeware disk and restart your computer, if computer doesn't detect new software when it is rebooting....than go into your control panel...click on install new software.

Once that is installed, you'll need to restart again with the printer hooked up this time.

Again, if computer doesn't detect new hardware, go into control panel, click on install new printer, you will have to select the make and model, or if you have the disk, select have disk, then next...you computer should install the hardware for you printer.

After installed, restart again...to see if if new software and hardware is detected and is being installed.

Go to your printers, from your control panel, and see if your printer is there, if not select, add new printer, it will take you through the process from there. Make sure you select this to be your default printer!

Happy printing!

Won't scan but prints and copies

turn off computer. turn on - does a test page print? You need to unplug the USB cable from the printer and put the test page on the scanner - push scan. This should scan the page. Turn off computer, hook USB back up. Try to scan whatever you are scanning.
Hope that helps!

Not able to print but can scan

Printing can only be done from the computer.
You need to add printer before before you try to use it. Add Printer from control panel, then see if it search and find the printer software. If it does not.
turn off the computer and unplug the printer. wait a little then restart the computer. after it is started, and windows loaded, plug in the printer and see if the computer recognizes it and it will search for the driver. if the driver is not available,it will ask permission to search the internet. then it will download and install it with your permission. then it should work if it is serviceable. good luck.

When you got this message were you trying to scan?

What I want you to do is a copy. Doing a copy will generally not require you to be hooked to the PC.

Scanning and Printing all require communication from the printer to the computer. Failure in communication can either be something on the computer, something wrong with the cable or rarely something wrong with the printer.

I'm assuming you have done the following:

1. Power off your printer and your computer.
2. Unplugged the power from the printer
3. Unplugged the USB cable from both the printer and the computer.
4. Reconnect the USB cable to the printer and the computer.
5. Plug the power back into the printer and make sure the printer is on.
6. Turn on the computer.

Those are general troubleshooting steps that can be done for any communication problem.

If you have done all of those try this:

Press and hold down the Windows key on the keyboard, and then type the letter R.
Type "devmgmt.msc" and then click OK on the Run dialog.
Find the item Universal Serial Bus controller.
Click the + sign next to the word Universal Serial Bus controller.
Do you see USB Printing Support?
Yes:
Right-click on USB Printing Support, and then click Properties.
Does the Device status say “This device is working properly.”?
Yes:
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software?
No:
Click the Troubleshoot button to try to resolve the problem.
Does the Device status now say “This device is working properly.”?
Yes:
Try your print again (might need to restart)
No:
Might have a problem with your Printing Support

No:
Might have a problem with your Printing Support

Let me know - if you have a problem with your printing support you'd really need to contact your PC MFG for help - but you can always try uninstalling the USB Printing Support and reinstalling it (only if you have your disks that came with your printer).

Unplug your printer from the computer.

Go to your start menu, and open your control panel. From there, doubleclick on the printer icon. You should see your printer listed. Right click on your printer and choose 'uninstall' (it might be 'remove' or something like that.) Unistall the printer.

Restart your computer (make sure the printer is still not hooked up). Reinstall the software that came with your printer. Then you can go back into your control panel, printers, and look for an option that says 'add printer' Add your printer (maybe even restart the computer) and finally plug the printer back in.

See if that works, and let me know if it doesn't, or if these directions are too technical.

Thankyou,
