knvoss thanx for the information but I have run into another problem. After loading winxp on I had more problems then before. Now I can't find my recovery disk. Do you know where I can get a copy of the recovery disk. I have looked on internet and I think it is outrageous what they want to charge for the disk. Toshiba is a company that is on my don't buy list forever. And of course my warranty is up. They know they sold us a lemon. This is getting crazy. If you can help me in any way I very much appreciate it. Been looking for the recovery disk but no one seems to have them and they to have lost them. Now is'nt this funny we all lost those darn disk. And toshiba act like they not gonna give us another set. SMH. But really thanx for all your help knvosss

Hi again knvoss now it won't boot up...says that it can not read OS system. I tried the formatting and installing from the windows xp cd and it told me that there was errors on my hard drive. I have tried to find the manufacturer of the hard drive but to avail. The hard drive is 40.0gb 4200rpm mk4025gas. I have looked and asked for drivers for this hard drive and once again I have no such luck. Guess I am just out of luck with this junk. I can't win for losing. But I thank you so much for your help into my matter. There should be more ppl like you who are willing to help out when they can. I really appreciate all that you have done for me.

the page i posted should have most of the drivers you need. if there is any particular ones, let me know. to see what you do and dont have, press the windows button and the pause/break button at the same time, then click hardware, then device manager. any ! or ? are devices with a problem. once you are able to get on the internet (which you should be able to now with your ethernet drivers) you can right click on the device and click on update driver. most drivers can automatically be found this way unless it is new and i does not seem like your is.
let me know if i can be of more help

your hard drive might be bad. if you are sure you formatted it before installing windows, that should have cleared up any errors that would be on it. the good news is, hard drives are not that expensive and they are easy to install. it would be a lot cheaper then a new laptop! you should do a search on hard drive replacement for your model number. let me know if you have any questions!

First try the manufacturer of your computer. However, there are many makers that didn't bother with pre-Vista drivers.

Network Adapter/Ethernet Controller

Nothing wrong with having two network adapters installed on your computer. If you have this DWA-552 wireless adapter installed as well as an onboard NIC, the correct thing to do is have both drivers installed so you see them both in your Control Panel->Network Connections window.

If you really want the onboard nic to go away, go into device manager and disable it - not uninstall it.

Ethernet controller, Multemedia controller, PCI Modem and Video controller dont work since i've installed home edition

I will try. First, upgrade xp to xphome? I think XP home is not an upgrade from anything except maybe Win Me or 9x. As far as I understand it, XP home is the lowest flavor of Win that is currently being supported. That being said, Heres my idea.

I don't know the type of lap you have so I cant look for it myself but if you go to your manufactures web site you should be able to find updated drivers for your Laptop. Usually it can be found under the heading "support" or "downloads". They will ask for your model # and then provide you with a list of drivers and such. If you include your Make and Model# I can help further. But I bet you just the need to update the drivers.
