I had the same problem. It's because of the Paper port software.
- Remove Paper port from Add/Remove in Control Panel
- Use Windows' native scanning software by clicking to the scanner icon which should appear like your own Strobe xp 300 and use the first command from the list.
- From there, Windows should guide through final step
That should solve your problem

hi this could be a driver error, try updating the drivers for this, if not un-install the drivers and re-install them and that should sort it out ...hope this helps

Loaded Visioneer Strobe XP 300 with PaperPort 11 on Win7 machine, but all scans come out black. Any ideas out there? Previously I had the same scanner working fine on an XP machine. Maybe there is an...


Did you calibrate the scanner on the Windows 7 machine? When you calibrate, a file is saved on the host computer - if you do not calibrate, everything is black.

In case you dont have a calibration sheet, I just uploaded one to FixYa - it will take a few days for moderators to review it, but then you can print it out on both sides of a single sheet of paper (so that the arrows are pointing at the same end of the paper, but on both sides of it) and use that to calibrate your scanner - make sure that you have 'edge to edge' printing turned on, as there cannot be any white space on the sides of the black space.

try to calibrate the scanner, go control panel, scanner and fax, properties.. and calibrate with the calibration paper.. you can clean also with the cleaning paper..

Xerox Documate 152 - Scan quality is now V.BAD!


I would go to Xerox.com and look up their knowledge base. Here is a copy of data from their site related to this problem:

Symptom: Scanned images have poor image quality, are fuzzy, unclear, or hard to read.
Cause: There are several things that can lead to poor image quality including the scan settings, dirt on the scanner, and driver problems. Solution: Note: If you scan as a PDF file and your scans look fuzzy when viewed in PaperPort, try right clicking on the file and selecting "Open" to open them in Adobe Reader. If they display fine in Adobe Reader then there is nothing wrong with the scans, it is simply that they are not being displayed well in PaperPort.

The following solutions can help resolve poor scan quality.

Solution 1 - Adjust the scan settings

Try increasing the resolution of your scan. 300 dpi to 400 dpi should be clear for most images
  • If you are scanning in Black and White, try Grayscale or Color. Some images will not display correctly in Black and White
  • You can also try adjusting the brightness and contrast
  • Note: For information on adjusting your scan settings, refer to the user guide for your scanner
Solution 2 - Clean and Calibrate the scanner

Note: Calibration only applies to sheetfed scanners.

WE DID NOT HAVE A "CLEANING SHEET" AS WAS SUGGESTED BY THE MAKERS OF THE VISIONEERS. APPARENTLY OURS DID NOT COME WITH ONE UPON PURCHASE. HOWEVER, WE WERE SUPPLIED WITH A CALIBRATION SHEET. WE SIMPLY RAN THE CALIBRATION SHEET AGAIN ...... PROBLEM SOLVED.

open the scanner and remove the clips, move the lense up and clean it. it is very easy to clean.
