Open the side of your PS3 where your HDD is. Take the screw out, but leave the HDD in. (THE NEXT STEP YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SAVED DATA) When the update begins, pull your HDD out of the slot. It will tell you an error occured and it tells you to restart your system and try again. Instead, let the count from 60 run out, your screen will go blank for about 30 seconds then it will start back up and tell you that your Hard Drive needs to be reformatted. REPLACE YOUR HDD into PS3 - (make sure your controller is PLUGGED IN) and press the white PS3 button on the controller. It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR white PS3 Button - PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to user agreements!! Simply hit cancel and it will kick back to the PS3 start up screen. Then try to figure out if you have a bad blu ray or bad blue cable before you update again
Take the controller apart and check the wire connections on the controller card. There are many times with a system this old that the wires could be pulled off the board. If the wires are disconnected then you may have to solder them back together. If they look good and are making good contact then check the area where the start and select buttons are. You may need to just clean the area. Use alchol and a small soft bristle brush or a Q-Tip and clean the area and allow it to dry. This should get the buttons to work again.
just fixed mine. i went to psclones web site ...it doesn't even have the PS3 remote listed a s a product!! however by reading the PS2 manual i figured that if I basically adapted the instructions it might help...I moved the remote to the 3rd slot.. turned off controller switch... held connect button on reciever... turned on controller.... held connect button....held select button ......held down left analogue stick....in no particular order...going back and forth until i noticed the lights had started to go steady... kept holding (30 secs+) Saw a single steady red on 3rd slot...It stayed...Yeh ;O (no clue what was the deciding factor...but theres hope!!) Lesson learned..next time i pay the full price for the Sony remote... Hope this helps
