First ensure you removed the cellotape strip from the toner cartridge, may seem stupid but sometimes this can give you same problem.

Do the following:

Remove tober cartridge.
Unplug power cord.
Wait ten minutes.
Plug back.
Open the printer and insert toner.
Ensure toner is well fit inside, and that there is no paper fragment inside the printer.
Keep power button pressed ten seconds if it does not accept the toner.
Also try unplugging power again for ten minutes.

I think the sensor has failed

and you will have to replace the sensor to get it back working

in the machine, the lever assembly that trips the optical sensor will have
moved laterally to the left (when viewing the machine from the back),
preventing it from tripping the sensor when everything was closed. you will have to release the black guide plate (there is a light grey tab on the
right end keeping it from dropping down fully that will need to be
released to allow the guide plate to drop down. Then you will see the
lever assembly now on top of the plate that is used to trip the sensor.
This assembly has a lever on the left end as well at roughly the center
of the machine. Along the rod that connects the levers together, there
is a third lever that should be down in a slot in the black guide
plate. in the machine, this lever was not in the slot, but to its left.
Once you move this lever into the slot, the whole assembly will be oriented
laterally in the correct manner, and once the guide plate will be replaced
and when the back cover closed, the error message will disappear

It is not the back cover but the black guide inside the back cover.
    Looking
from the back of the machine you will see a black guide plate that
moves back and forward as you close the back cover now on the right
hand side there is a lever that when closed(the guide)will go through
an optical sensor to tell m/c its closed.Make sure the lever is still
there and going through the sensor.
    Hope this helps

Sometimes paper is jammed inside the black plastic inner chute and you can not see
it. If you find paper wrapped around the orange roller do not try to
remove it. You will want to check with Brother and find out if the unit
    is in warranty.

HP Photosmart C4180 message "Scanner

Try resetting the printer:
Reset the printer
-Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the printer, but leave the printer turned on.
-Open the cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges.
-Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message.
-Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for one minute.
-Reconnect the power cord. If the printer does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
-Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
-Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
-Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer.
Hope that helps!

Message 'Clean Sensor' has appeared. Followed advise to open Cover D and close it again but to no avail. Has anyone got any other suggestions, please?

Follow the steps below to clear the "Clean Sensor" error message.
  1. Open the front cover of the printer (cover D). c2600_cover_d.jpg
  2. Slowly close the cover again. c2600_close_cover_d.jpg This action will move the lever shown below and clean the sensor.
    c2600n_clean_sensor.png
  3. Open and close the cover several times. Once the front cover is left closed the printer will start to calibrate.
Once complete, the error should no longer appear and the printer should resume normal operation.

Note: If the error message is still apparent after following the steps above, contact Epson for further advice.

I have a brother MFC - 490CW... There is a printing error that reads Unable to print 70

There are several issues that can cause an Unable to Print message. Try the following in succession until the printer works.
1) Get a lint free cloth and clean the encoder strip. Lift the scanner unit until it locks open and slide the print head to the right if it isn't there. The encoder strip is in front of the white vinyl band. There is a warning to not touch the encoder strip - this applies to touching it with your hands. Grab the encoder strip (both sides) with the cloth. Wipe vigorously from one end to the other and return at least three times (left to right then right to left each time).
2) Check for any foreign objects (paper or anything else) in the print head path. Use a flashlight to check the corners of the unit. Check under the print head (including that right hand side where it rests during the cleaning of the encoder strip). Move it to the left to check if you moved it to the right.
3) Open the back Jam Clear Cover and check for any jammed paper. Remove anything you find that doesn't belong. Close the Jam Clear Cover.
4) Now close the scanner unit. (If you do this before opening and closing the Jam Clear Cover, the error will not reset at all.) If the error is not cleared, clean the encoder strip again.
5) If the error continues to persist, cycle the power by unplugging the printer for at least two seconds. Then plug it back in.
6) When the error message is gone, run a test by printing the Help List. Press Menu and select Print Reports > Help List and then press Black Start.
7) If the report prints, you have fixed the printer. If it doesn't print and you have cycled the power, the unit needs service. If it is under warranty contact Brother. Before having the unit serviced transfer any faxes in memory to another fax machine if you can. To do this you need to have set a Station ID for this printer (before the error message). If you do have this set, press Menu and go to Service > Data Transfer > Fax Transfer. If you are prompted to enter a fax number, you have faxes in memory. Enter the fax number of the unit that can store the faxes and press Black Start. (If No Data appears, there are no stored faxes. Press Black Start to exit the menu.)

I hope this helps.

Brother (photocopier, fax and scanner machine) says << back cover open. close back cover>> but the back cover (or at least what i think is the back cover) is closed. I even opened and closed it...

I have fixed this problem on my 7820n printer by brother.

open the back door, then inside there will be a black colored other kind of like door that pulls back away from the roller. on this inner door is a black long thin plastic lever that runs from about the center of the inner door to the right. on the right end of it is a lever that slides along a curved increase on the right side wall. when both doors are closed this right end of the rod or lever moves up to close the gap between what is the sensor. this long thin plastic rod had snapped out of place and when i snapped it back in making sure the spring was correctly installed on the left end of it and the middle part of the rod slid correctly in its groove...the right end of the lever correctly closed the gap on the sensor (when both doors are closed) and the back door open error went away.

So that's how you really fix it!!!!

Hp 7410 officejet all in one

--close cover ---means the lower base of the printer is open the cover you open when to remove or insert the cartridges.that is not related to copy or scan cover which is above that.just close the lower covwer little bit tightly.apply gentle force or push to make it close properly.
do it carefully.

thanks.
