Install the new harddrive where you want to transfer your files and set tis jumper to slave and set the jumper of the other harddrive from where your files are located to master. when you open your pc you will two drives C: and D: open c: and locate your files and you can use the 'copy' or the 'move' command and select the drive where you want to put your files

Are you plugging directly into the computer or using a USB Hub. Cheaper USB hubs have awful data throughput. I have one that I tried to plug a sd card reader into and it would take ten minutes for a 60 megabyte file. Connect directly to a port. Or download Samsung diagnostics and make sure that the drive is in proper working order. Verifying The Hard Disk Drive Is Working Normally

Trying to transfer data from an old harddrive i have (maxtor, diamondmax plus 9 80 GB ATA / 133 HDD) to My HP laptop

Install the hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter case the plug this USB hard drive into the USB port in your laptop. The laptop will see it as an external storage device, open the various folders and copy the files to your laptop.
You can delete any unwanted files off this external USB hard disk and use it for backups and file transfer.

Unable to trnsfer files from laptop to hard drive

You may have a problem with copying files if the location being transferred to is a Fat32 disk. Is the file you are trying to copy more than 4 gb is size? If so, you will need to copy to an NTFS formatted partition. If you are unsure, most drives are formatted in NTFS, or if you are using a Mac, HFS, which should be able to handle the file.
According to sources on the internet, you can work around this issue by setting up a home network and copying the file over the network instead of via USB or firewire.
Please rate, Thanks!

My Book 1Tb will not let me copy movies on to it.

To transfer files larger than 4GB to the drive, the harddrive must have an NTFS File system. Unfortunately, the FAT32 File system is not capable of handling a single file larger than 4GB (to be exact, one byte less than 4GB). Follow the steps below to format the harddrive with an NTFS File system:
Warning, all data on the harddrive will be lost! Please backup the data on the harddrive before proceeding.
  1. Locate My Computer (Computer in Vista). Right-click on the harddrive and select Format.
  2. Select NTFS from the File system drop-down list.
  3. Select Quick Format as the Format option and click Start.
  4. Note: If NTFS is not an available option, close the Format window and follow steps 4-9.
  5. Right-click My Computer (Computer in Vista) and select Properties.
  6. Select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
  7. Expand Disk drives and right-click on the harddrive. Select Properties.
  8. Click on the Policies tab and select "Optimize for performance.”
  9. Click OK.
  10. Repeat steps 1-3.
