Which application does the page look large in? For example is the page large in Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word or Firefox, etc.? or is the page size large in all programs?

If the screen is too large only in your browser you can hold the control key while scrolling with your mouse to zoom or out.

If the problem concerns the monitor settings instead, unplug monitor from power for two minutes to reset it.

How to adjust the page file size in Windows Vista

The page file (or swap file) is a portion of the hard drive that Windows reserves to use as additional memory when its needed. You can make the page file smaller or larger, or disable it completely.

1. Click the Vista orb.
2. Right click on Computer.
3. Select Properties.
4. Under Tasks on the left hand side, select Advanced system settings.
5. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.
6. Click the Advanced tab.
7. Under Performance, click the Settings button.
8. Click the Advanced tab.
9. Under Virtual memory, click the Change button.
10. Select the hard drive that you want to adjust the page file for. (Typically this will be the C: drive.)
11. If Custom size is not already selected, click the circle next to it to select it.
12. Enter an Initial size and Maximum size for the page file in megabytes. The maximum size must be equal to or larger than the initial size, and both values should be at least one and a half times the amount of physical RAM that is installed in the computer.
13. Click the Set button.
14. Click OK to save the changes.
15. Click OK again in the Performance Options window.
16. Click OK in the System Properties window.
17. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.

If your computer performs erratically after changing the page file size, go back into the settings and either change it back to its previous value or try a new value. Virtual memory errors are a good indicator that the page file is not large enough to handle what Windows needs it to do.

How to get the page count on a Brother HL-6050

To obtain a page count (also called a meter reading) from a Brother HL-6050 printer, follow the steps below. (This procedure also applies to the HL-6050D and the HL-6050DN models.)

A. When the machine is on and ready to print, press any of the following keys to bring up the menu: Set, Back, +, or -.

B. The first menu heading that appears is Information; press Set to select it.

C. Use the + or - keys to scroll through the Information menu until you see Maintenance.

D. Press Set to select it.

E. The first option that you'll see is Page Counter; press Set to view the count.

The number of pages printed so far will appear on the screen. Once you've seen or recorded this number, keep pressing the Back button until you're back at the Ready screen.

If you would rather have a printout with the page count on it, you can get that instead by simply pressing the Set button three times from the Ready screen. The first time you press it you'll bring up the menus, the second time you'll select the Information menu, and the third time you'll select Print Settings. When you choose Print Settings, three pages of information will print out, showing supply usage, jam counters, and machine settings. On the second page, about halfway down the page under the <Device Status> heading, you'll see the page count. Beneath the page count, you can also find the number of pages printed from each paper tray, as well as the page count broken down by paper size (for example, letter-size paper, legal-size paper, or envelopes).

I have installed a 2nd hard drive in my hp dv7-1232nr laptop and it shows up in the device manager but does not show up when I click on my computer. Why is it not showing up there?

With XP and 2000, though, use Windows' Disk Management utility. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management, and choose Disk Management from the tree at left. Your new drive should appear, with a black bar indicating it isn't partitioned. Right-click the bar, and choose New Partition to launch the New Partition wizard. Installed drives and their partition schemes appear in the Disk Management window's lower-right corner.

Click Next, and check that Primary Partition is selected; click Next again, to the Specify Partition Size screen (don't change the partition size in the "Partition size in MB" field); and click Next to advance to another screen, on which "Assign the following drive letter" should be selected. Click Next yet again (to the Format Partition screen), and ensure that "Format this partition with the following settings" is selected and that the "File system" drop-down reads "NTFS." Click Next a final time, hit Finish, and formatting begins.
Formatting could take an hour or more, depending on drive capacity. But don't be surprised if your formatted drive has less capacity than the package claims. A 320GB drive, for instance, formats to about 300GB. Drive manufacturers advertise preformatted size, but a portion of the drive is inaccessible.
Hope this information will help.

Your response is very much appreciated...Thank you for using Fixya...

When printing on the 4250, the margins are moved to the right of the paper cutting off the text. This is an XP computer and the PCL and PS drivers have been tested...

I would check to make sure that the paper trays are set properly and paper size is being detected properly. Print out the configuration page and see if that prints correctly. If it shows the same shift in image, check the paper sizes that the configuration sheet shows to make sure it is reading the trays properly. If the trays are reading properly and test print prints properly, then it is either your driver or the software you are printing from that has a problem.

To print the configuration sheet, press the down arrow button until the screen reads "information", press checkmark and then use the down arrow until "configuration page" is highlighted and then press the checkmark again. After a few seconds your page will print.

My computer will not pick up my drive when i put it in

The windows disk management utility will help solve this issue most of the time. Use the directions below:

Right click on you "My Computer" Icon

A menu will open

Chose "Manage"

The Computer Management window will open

The Computer Management window is broken down into 3 sections.

The first section on the left side of the window shows a menu. Disk Management is on the lower portion of the menu.

The right side is separated into two sections, top and bottom. The top portion shows a list of active drives on the computer. The lower portion shows all drives connected to the computer. CD or DVD drives that have not disk will not show as active drives on the top section, but can be seen in the lower section.

The lower section will show the drive description, drive size and drive condition (online or off line) in small box on the left side of that section. Disk drives will designate a "Drive" and a number. Drive 0 is usually your internal hard drive. Then it would list drive 1, drive 2, etc, depending on how many internal and external drive sources you have connected to your computer. Then it will list your CD drives and generally show their drive letter assignments.

Next to the smaller section described above, is a larger section which shows the driver letter, size of the driver and condition (if working correctly will show "healthy")

This is the area you can right click and get a menu that will allow you to open, explore, mark the partition as active, change the driver letter, format the drive or delete a partition. (A note of caution here. Changing the driver letter on your main hard drive partition will cause windows to stop functioning. The main hard drive, or hard drive partition, is normally given the letter "C".) A hard drive may show two or more partitions with separate drive letters designated for each partition.

A drive that is having a problem may show that it needs to be formatted (status as Unformatted). This can be done from this window. An external drive, whether it is a hard drive or CD/DVD drive, can have the letter designator change done if you want to organize your external drives. There are times when a drive will not show up because the drive letter that they are programmed to use are taken. Most USB drives are programmed to us the letters "F" or "G". In this area, you can assign the USB drive any drive letter that is not being used and this will make it visible in windows.

If you found this answer helpful, please remember to leave positive feedback.

Thank You,

Brian

Dell LCD monitor has flashing lines, color distortion; random

I'm not an expert but I will give you a couple suggestion, who knows might help might not. It's worth shot.
First open your internet explorer, when webpage comes up, go to the top of you screen and click Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, scrool down under the list marked Browsing, put a check in the box next to "Use smooth scrolling." And try it again.
The next thing is try you other cord, it could be your video card.
If it works good on the other computer, chances are, The comupter is the problem.
If the computer has Windows XP on it you could try a restore point.
Go to Start button, Click All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, Click on one of the Dates that would be, before you remember having the problem, click next, let the computer reboot. And, see what happens then.
Hope that helps some...
