I have a Hitachi Plasma TV model number H/55PD8800TAKIT It has stopped displaying the picture but there is sound. There appears to be no static tension coming from the screen when you swipe your hand across it.

If the problem is with the power supply PCB, is there a fuse that would be related to this power supply that may need to be replaced, and if so where is it located in the TV. If there is no fuse, does the entire PCB power supply need to be replaced and if so where can these be purchased?

  • dunbargs Oct 17, 2008

This solution looks like a post from another problem and doesn't answer my question in regard to the fuse.

These sets have circuits to detect internal problems and these circuits will shutdown the set or prevent it from coming on completely in order to prevent further damage. It is unclear whether or not there is a power problem. If this set is not under warranty, open up the back and look for capacitors that have bulging tops. That is one possible indication of a problem. There is no "fuse" that will fix this. Since the power supply is a "switch mode" type, there are a number of reasons for part of it to not function. This is not an easy problem to diagnose remotely.I would suggest that you request service on this. I don't have a listing for the model you posted, so I can only give you general information.

Keep us posted.

The problem is in the video processing board and only qualified sevice centers can get the parts , these new chips have new designs that aren't available to the public

also commonly the plasma screens go and need replaced or with the warranty they have been replacing the tv with another model

  • jason Oct 17, 2008

this is NOT a power problem , I fix these plasma's all the time and the video processing board or the plasma screen itself has failed and only qualified electronic repair shops can get these parts! even if you call them up they will tell you to take it to a service shop because they don't want people in the sets that do not know what they are doing. if it were a power problem you wouldn't have sound or the LED in front would not be on. and if a fuse blew for the video processing board then there is something wrong with the processing board.

There are two power source on the TV's circuit. One is power supply for sound and the other one is power supply for the video. It seems like there's a broken/burned electronic component on the video power supply, normally its just a capacitor. However, uou may need to visually check the circuit board to identify which other part is totally defective or burned. If you can't do it by yourself, just bring your unit to a qualified electronic technician or to any nearest appliance service center.

pull the light assy to get the fuse out. No big deal though, just 2 screws. Need a long screwdriver.

Sounds like you may have a high voltage arc and / or leak . better to let a manufacturers qualified technician have a look at it this time . ask for an estimate after diagnosis and before repairs are made. factor age plus repair cost v/s a replacement tv . also in the area where i live most in shop repair estimates are cheap or even free . field repair estimates are definitely not . all tv parts can be replaced but, screen replacements can get expensive . barring neglect , abuse or a significant power surge you should not be having these problems on a tv so new. double check your warranty. most electronics come with 1 year on parts ,90 days on service. some warranty limitations are not allowed in certain states. also contact the manufacturer . in my expierence some of the better companies have honored an expired warranty partlialy and sometimes even fully on a relatively new product . after all they do have reputation to lose or keep . just be courteous and if your lucky they will be too. but if all else fails, i personaly prefer lcd flatscreen . oh , about the screen crack , clean and position your tv according to the owners manual . some of todays televison components are even more thermaly and chemicaly sensitive than ever . ie; window cleaner can whiten or even crack certain types plastics. finaly if you are not using a good surge protector now may be the time.

Sound on but no picture?

Its from the model a Plasma----no single or easy answer for this--voltages in power supply in and out need to be tested and then at some point a scope used to check wave forms and then boards tried to see if a bad one or if the display panel itself is causing this(fatal).

I have a 42 inch Hitachi plasma tv that is making a very loud static noice coming from the internal speakers. It stays at a contstant very loud volume unless I completly mute the tv or turn the volum

Based on what you have tried if a buzz or loud static via the speakers you have something wrong in the audio output circuit of the set--problem here is that circuit may be part of the Main board that processes all signal---a look inside---following the speaker leads back would lead you to that board.

A simple thing to do to narrow it a little (you may have done this) is with sound all the way off put your ear to the internal speaker--hear anything at all like a deep hum?

Depending on age of set and cost of the board likely bad it may or may not be a do it yourself repair.

I think you have problems with the digital main PWB.

If the power PWB failed, turn off and change the pilot ligth to red.
