I have the 500GB drive. I'm planning on uninstalling and reinstalling the mionet software.

  • NASuser Nov 12, 2008

Also, the the web interface at mionet.com does not work. It says "unable to connect".

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2008

Same here. The tray icon seems normal, but when I right click the tray icon and choose manage, mionet does nothing. I can't open the user interface or access my drives.

It was working last night, and I did not modify my computer since then!

This is a new 500Gb WD My Book World Edition.

    "Anywhere Access" what a F... joke !!!

same problem for me. I can't access the GUI or the drives. It seems to have started after the most recently microsoft update???

  • thepogopaper Mar 16, 2009

Same problem - mionet/WD worldbook is very disapointing...
I have been working on this and I beleive in is a Java problem.
I do not think mionet is the cause. I have sent a share to someone who does not have mionet installed and they are experiencning the same problem.

  • jretzlaff Mar 31, 2009

Same problem. After going to setup Mionet after a HD failure on my laptop, it won't work. Mionet task tray icon is there, however when I click manage, nothing happens... spent 1.5 hours on the phone with WD and they had me ping the drive, pings fine. I can map the drive however when you click on the drive it sayd "folder is empty" even though right below that is says that 668 of the 957GB is used. Can someone PLEASE HELP!?!?! WD says my MyBook "partition is corrupted", though it never moves and hasn't evenbeen accessed in a couple months. PLEASE HELP ME!

  • donegan_jpd Mar 31, 2009

I have the same problem. GUI will not open after recent update. Tried reming Norton 360 (in case it was the cause), reloaded mionet many times to no avail. I have a Vista and a XP machines with same problem. I have another Vista machine I have not yet rebooted after recent upgrades and it works OK. I am not sure if it is a microsoft upgrade or a java upgrade that is the culprit. Any solutions

Two things to consider:
1. make sure the drive is connected; you can do so by trying to browse the drive through the my computer network places, or by pinging to the drive's ip; meaning the drive must have to be connected and communicating to your pc
2. completely uninstall the Mionet desktop tool, restart the pc, and then reinstall the Mionet desktop tool.

good luck !!!

Mybookworld is not visible in mionet

Give up. I've had Mionet for over a year, and I have not been able to reliably access it remotely using Mionet, even on a 32-bit system. Mionet is finally advertising a 64-bit system, yet it still doesn't work--the drive shows "offline". Advice from Mionet in my many attempts to get support says to reset the hard drive--kinda hard when you're away on vacation. Even using Mionet web doesn't work reliably. In the end, the many, many chances I've given Mionet and Western Digital support to fix this have only resulted in frustration, delays, and ineffective advice. Overall, Western Digital has failed to produce a product that's remotely accessible, and you're left with a local-access-only outboard hard drive.

Can't manage MyBookWorld 1tb we (blue rings)

The issue you are experiencing is an error on our servers. Our next version of MioNet should prevent and resolve the issue, but in the meantime you must complete the following steps to regain remote access to your My Book World (blue rings):

To create a new MioNet account, please use the following instructions:

Part A. Reset MioNet/Anywhere Access

1. Please open your web browsers and enter (without the quotes) "http://<IP address of My Book World>" or "http://mybookworld" in the address bar. The Shared Storage Manager web page will appear. The username and password it requests will be the same as your MioNet username, and the original password used for MioNet (if you changed your password on our website, it does not update the My Book World).

2. Once you have accessed the Western Digital Shared Storage Manager please select "General Setup", then choose "WD Anywhere Access settings". On the following page you will have three buttons to select: please click on the "Stop" button, wait until WD Anywhere Access status goes to "Inactive", then click the "Reset" button. Once the WD Anywhere Access Status goes to "Not Registered," (on older firmware, it will go back to Active), the My Book World has been properly reset. This will return the MioNet software on the My Book World to default settings. It will not harm your stored files.

Part B. Uninstall and Reinstall MioNet (on a computer located on the same network as My Book World)

1. Uninstall MioNet from one of your computers.
2. Insert your Western Digital installation disk or download MioNet from http://www.mionet.com/mbvista and launch the MioNet installer.

NOTE: You must use the installation disk or the link above to create your new account. Certain functionality related to the My Book World is related to the installer you use to register a new MioNet account. Failure to use the proper installer may result in the need to repeat this process.

3. Register as a new user. You will need to specify a new username and E-Mail address.
4. During the installation, MioNet should detect the now reset My Book World. Please add it to your new account.

Part C. Uninstall and Reinstall MioNet on your other computers

1. Uninstall MioNet from your other computers.
2. Install MioNet using the Western Digital installation disk or downloaded from MioNet from http://www.mionet.com/mbvista and launch the MioNet installer.
3. Register as a current user with your new account's information.

Please let us know what your new account name is and we will follow-up with additional information. We will also send you instructions on how to reset that account's password.

Mionet problem

Your account has something called "account bug"
You will need to reinstall MioNet on all computers, reset the My Book World, then attach it to your new MioNet account. You'll need to download the Blue-Ring My Book World version of MioNet here:
http://www.MioNet.com/mbvista
Then, to attach your My Book World to the new MioNet account (just select a new username when you re-install MioNet), follow these directions:

1. Turn off My Book World
2. Identify the reset button on the back of My Book World
3. Depress the reset button while restarting My Book World
4. Keep the reset button depressed for about 10 seconds after you see blue lights on My Book World

You should now be able to sign in to the Shared Storage Manager as admin/123456.

5. Please open your web browsers and enter (without the quotes) "http://<IP address of My Book World>" or "http://mybookworld" in the address bar. The Shared Storage Manager web page will appear.
6. Once you have accessed the Western Digital Shared Storage Manager please select "General Setup" then choose "WD Anywhere Access settings." Use the default username of "admin" and default password of "123456" (without the quotes). On the following page you will have three buttons to select, please click on the "Reset" button. This will return the MioNet software on My Book World to default settings.
7. From within the MioNet Client, go to File > Remove Computer. Locate the My Book World (WDStorage, MyBookWorld, or whatever you named it) and remove it.
8. If you do not see a new window from MioNet informing you that you have a storage device available, "Scan for Cameras and New Devices…" to detect the unit.

Can't Access to MioNet, Can't access to WD Drive

It's a MioNet issue -- if you create a new MioNet account and reset the WD Anywhere Access/MioNet settings on the My Book World (accessible from the drive's interface on its http://ip or http://name address), you'll be able to access the drive again.

So here're your steps:

1. Reset the My Book World's MioNet settings (there's a reset button within the interface)
2. Uninstall MioNet (restart when it tells you to)
3. Re-install MioNet from the CD that came with your drive (restart again when it tells you to)

During this process it should find your My Book World and ask you to give it a name. Once you have completed the process, you should see the My Book World once again in your MioNet interface and be able to see the folders that are only visible when MioNet is running.

If you have any questions or want to speak with a MioNet Tech (I am one of them, my name is Laura), call our WD number at 1-800-275-4932 and tell them you have "Account Bug"

Mionet unable to detect Lifecam 7000

A camera icon will show up at the bottom of your My Resources in MioNet. If the camera does not appear, then a manual scan is required. To scan for a new camera, go to the MioNet application, select File, then click "Scan for Cameras and new Devices…" MioNet will report any changes in the computer configuration.

If the camera isn't detected and an icon is not available, then there may be two devices interfering with a scan:

1. Built-in webcam: MioNet does not support built-in webcams. This device should be disabled in Windows Device Manager, the computer rebooted, and a new "Scan for Cameras and new Devices…" performed with the USB webcam. Once the USB webcam is detected by MioNet, the onboard webcam can be re-enabled and the computer rebooted.

2. TV tuner card: MioNet also does not support TV tuner cards. This device should be disabled in Windows Device Manager, the computer rebooted, and a new "Scan for Cameras and new Devices…" performed with the USB webcam. Once the USB webcam is detected by MioNet, the TV tuner card can be re-enabled and the computer rebooted.

3. If the camera is being used by another program, MioNet will not be able to detect it. Please confirm no other program, including the camera view in Windows control panel, is not using the camera.

Mionet application doesn't show files in subfolders of shared folders

I believe you have a choice of using either the web interface or the desktop version of Mionet when you are on the same network (LAN), and as you mentioned both of you have no problem when you are on the same network as the NAS drive (MBWE) is.

When you are out of the local network where your NAS drive is, the only choice you would have is the web interface of Mionet. Eventhough you may have installed the desktop version of Mionet tool on a remote PC, I don't think you can access through that desktop tool. Sorry !!!

Mionet problem

The issue you are experiencing is account bug. You must reinstall MioNet and create a new MioNet account, then attach the My Book World to the new account. You will then regain your MioNet access.
http://www.MioNet.com/mbvista -- this is the download installer for MioNet which works for blue-ring My Book Worlds. The White-Light My Book World requires different software.

To create a new MioNet account, please use the following instructions:

the best thing to do is to stop mionet and then restart it and see if that helps.
If it doesn't then stop mionet and manually map to the drive.
go to my computer and then map drive choose a drive letter and map to wherever your files are (mine is on the root of the drive so my share starts with id.....) it may ask you for a password. if it does then you need to uninstall mionet and then reinstall it. when it starts for the first time it will say that if you use a certain backup program then you will need a username and password, make a note of these as you will need these to log onto your mapped drive.
to stop mionet running just right click on my computer, select manage, go to services and set the mionet service to disabled.
