Go to the hp.com website and ensure that you have all of the software updates including BIOS firmware updates available. HP has an auto-detect program that you can run online so choose that option if it is available. Another possibilty is the power saving mode you can access in the setup. At boot press the F2 key and peruse the power saving options. Second to worse case is the power supply dying which is a pretty easy do-it-yourself replacement and cheap these days. Just ensure that the watt rating matches or exceeds the original and has PATA/SATA connectors you need plus the right CPU power plugs. Motherboard problems are the worst case so try reseating the RAM first and remove one at a time to see if the RAM modules may have intermittent failures. Overheating is another consideration if you found alot of dust which acts like a thermal blanket on components.

Do you use an UPS for your system... this can happen due to power fluctuation too...i think if you use an UPS your problem will be solved..

Overheating problem. Install a fan or put some arctic silver underneath the heatsink. the heatsink is what goes on top of the processor.

I have a Hp Pavilion 753n that when I turn it on fans run for about 9 seconds then powers itself down

Sounds to me as though one of your memory modules have failed inside the tower. You can perform a memory test so it would be worth researching that. Try this site http://www.memtest86.com/. You need to know if you pc is 32 or 64 bit first. you can find this by going to Start, All Programmes, Accessories, System Tools and finally, System information, in that order. Once you know, you can look for the correct memtest to download.

My desktop,hp pavilion753n worked fine til a few days ago.Now when i turn it on it goes thru the windows thingy and will not log on after that.It will allow me to use the f8 option but none of the options...

sounds like corrupted files or a virus/malware that is preventing you from loading up the OS. If you have a way to scan the hard drive with an external hard drive caddy and another PC I would try that. Or you can simply just reinstall your OS.

Best of luck and have a happy and safe 4th of July weekend!

My HP Pavilion 753n starts to be and then

It is the power supply
In hp the power supply they use does not die on you completely; it will start but not feed the computer.
So change it to generic brand and every thing will work fine.

HP 753n turns on and seems to start, nothing shows on the monitor. I pluged the monitor into another computer and it works fine. Is my vidio card bad? How do i fix it without being able to see anything?

If it is the video card, then you simply have to swap anoth in.

If your video card is embedded into the mother board, get a new video card of the correct type and plug it into the mother board. There is no way to fix a video card that has gone bad if its embedded into the motherboard, but you can upgrade to a regualr video card.
