No dial tone when the talk button is pushed

When there is n o dial tone when the talk button is pushed, I'll unplug the cord and plug it back in and there will be a dial tone for short while then quit. I can repeat this procedure and it will do the same thing.

My problem has been identical to the one I just read. The phone cuts out at any given time but never when in use has it happened. I can usually tell by the ring from the handsets that the call will not be connected when I answer. I have to unplug from the wall and it will reset and work for anywhere from a minute to a few days. I average unplugging the unit 3-5 times a week. I bought the unit as a 3 pack from Wal-Mart but they have been unhelpful. We are empty nesters and our family members are frustrated with our phone system. Please help us. Contact can be made through e-mail since the phones are unreliable. grejo239@yahoo.com

I have the phone where can use the ear phone, bought it especially for this feature as its "hands free". It keeps cutting out and have to grab another phone to carry on the conversation.
The phone was bought at Best Buy in July 2008, was told OK for use in Israel. Was OK for a while, now have this problem, and no address for a repair if needed.

    txs for your help

Please help I can't ring out on my phone

Check for dialing tone by pressing 'Talk On' phone button.
If no tone, check cord at base station and the phone socket is correctly plugged in at both ends using the original cord supplied.
If still no dial tone, check the phone at another phone connection to establish if either the phone or the line is faulty. Address for

GE298701 telephone with digital answering. Can't get a dial tone at all. I used the suggestions that the Guru suggested. 1. unplugging the phone from the wall power outlet and plug it back in 3 minutes....

Hi CasKey, Th fault of no dial tone can be several reasons but I shall put on some for your assesment.
1. the cradel swithc can be faulty and it migght not contact when the handset is taken up so that the call is conneccted from the ringer-- hope you get the ringing.
2. If no ringing is present then the line fuse is faulty , the inward protection circuit is faulty.
3.Check the optocoupler that transfers signal to the mP section for processing inthe dialler IC.
4. the dialing circuit- the trigger transsitor can be short and sut off the dial tone , this happens if there is any surge inthe telphone voltage and is a common fault. you can tes the transistor with a zener diode in combination , this must switch when the cradle is on... the hand set up.
check these and respond or else the dialler IC /processor IC can be defective.

Own a GE 29870GE1 telephone with digital answering machine. The digital part works but can't get a dial tone.

Hello,

Try unplugging the phone from the wall power outlet plug it back after like 3 minutes. Power on and see if you get a dial tone, if not, try reset the unit, once the unit is reset, the problem should be fix. Follow this steps to reset the unit,

Turn off the phone, remove the AC adapter, press and hold the page/call button that is on the phone and plug back your Ac adapter, this will fix the problem.

Take care.

The phone is not ringing and it is plug on charge and my wife got new battery for it too. What can i do to get it working? What size of Batteries cani use for this cordless phone

You need the specific battery pack: 5-2814 for the handset. This is a 850 mAh Nickel Metal hydride battery.

When I see a cordless phone that doesn't ring, the first thing I recommend checking is the phone jack and line itself with a second phone. I prefer to use a corded handset with a new phone cord to check for dial tone. If no dial tone at the jack, check for dial tone at the service entry box. If you have no dial tone at the service box, contact your provider. If it's only a problem at the jack, you will need to check your inside wiring.

To check the base, try a new cable (RJ-11) (double check the power as well).

To check the handset, first make sure the handset is fully charged (16 hours) and that the battery is fully installed. Does the handset beep when the Talk button is pressed? Next check that the handset ringer software is on. With the phone off (not in the talk mode), press the Mute/menu OK button. Use the Caller ID/volume (up/down) buttons to get to the Handset setup menu. Press the Mute/Menu OK button to access the menu. Use these buttons to check the Ringer Volume (should be on) and Ringer Tone. Press Mute/Menu OK to save the settings at each sub-menu. Check that the Do Not Disturb function is not on - this toggles with the Do Not Disturb button and should be noted on the handset screen when on.

If you have multiple extensions on the phone line, try unplugging some of them.

I hope this helps.

Fax wont' go through. Plugged phone jack into phone line and when I try to fax it doesn't connect. Any suggestions? Thanks

Can you receive any faxes. Run a Fax Test from the Tools menu. Is the problem with only one fax receipient? (Check the phone number and make sure they are set to receive. I have dealt with one fax receipient where the call-waiting service caught the fax call.)

Does the Fax see a dial tone? If there is no dial tone, use a single line phone (corded) to listen for a dial tone at that jack. If there is no dial tone, check the incoming service for a dial tone. (If you have no dial tone at all, contact your service provider.) Try a new phone cable (2-wire RJ-11) Try calling the number from another phone line with the single line phone attached. If the phone doesn't ring with a new cable, check your wiring and then contact your provider. Is the signal analog or digital (the all-in-one is designed for digital)?

Go back through the fax settings and set it as directed in Step 2 here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01458259&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3643612 . You need the fax error reporting setting.

Disconnect any items that are plugged into the 2-Ext port.

Try reinitializing the unit. Unplug the power cord with the unit on. Make sure that the phone cord is fully seated in the 1-Line port. Then reconnect the power cord.

Try resetting the all-in-one, this may require 2 people. With the printer on, unplug the power cord and wait at least 20 seconds. Press and hold # and 3 while plugging in the power cord. Release the buttons after the unit starts up.

If none of these steps help the unit may need service.

Headset has static

Perform a reset on the headset.  Hold down the mute button (the dial on the back of the headset needs to be pushed straight in), and at the same time hold down the call answer button until you see the green light on the headset blink a few times.  Release both the mute button and the call answer button.  See if it works now.  If it doesn't, try a re-subscription (should be available in the manual).

Can't get rid of "LINE IN USE"

try plugging a regular corded phone into the phone jack. if you have a dial tone there, then you might have broken the phone in your pocket,[ the phone being stuck, broken or shorted into answer mode that's why it's saying "phone in use"

My intercom button flashed red to green. When I push a line button, I get a two-tone beep but no dial tone. I changed the internal 9 v battery. I unplugged the phone and waited, then plugged it back in....

Each telephone must be connected to line 1 and line 2 for
proper operation. The remaining lines 3 and 4 may — or may not —
be connected to each station as you desire. First plug in the battery, then the phone lines (1 & 2 are mandatory), and third the power cord. If your intercome LED is blinking red and green, then press: STORE IN, followed by "INTERCOM" followed by a free intercom# (i.e., any of the memory buttons 1 through 16 not already assigned to another telephone set). Then wait for the phone to go through its initiation sequence during which it searches each of the four possible lines. After that concludes, you should get dial tone on your active lines. :-) Marco
