1 gb pc2100 recognised only as 512 mb

I have one stick of pc2100 installed and put in a 1 gb stick of 2100 also, but it is only seeing 1 gb total.

  • psamundson Oct 15, 2008

yes, still only showing 1GB total for system. If I take it out, shows only 504 mb of the 512 stick. This is the first time I have bought a integrated mobo/cpu combo, and I have also ran into problems trying to get it to see a wireless card, so I have this pc hard wired for internet. The mobo specs call for DDR sdram, which I have installed.

Is the original one also a 1GB? Some boards have to have the same size in both slots, but I do not know about yours. The info I saw online did not say it had to be.

Try swapping the slots. Is it still only 1GB?

The only other thing I can think of is to go into the BIOS and see if there is any option about enabling both RAM slots. Other than that, I can only think that the 2 have to be the same size. All the specs say it should hold up to 2GB. Good luck.

Information about how to expand RAM in Acer Aspire 1403LC

Most RAM will work with each other, but the safest way to be sure is by checking the speed. On the stick that is in there now you should see a label that says something like PC2100 DDR. I looked up the specs of your computer and this RAM should work for it.

Hi,

Make sure that you got the right memory module with this specs:

Memory
  • DDR266 (266 MHz) so-DIMM 200 pin
  • 2 DIMM slots; upgradable to 1 GB total memory (512 MB x 2)
or better go to this link http://support.fujitsupc.com/CS/Portal/supportsearch.do?srch=GUIDES

there's a step by step troubleshooting for memory modules. Also make sure you purchase memory module from Fujitsu or Authorized Fujitsu Dealers .

Change ram from 512 to 1 gig bios cannot read added ram

The original 2 sticks of 256 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 512
Mb of RAM. Two 512 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 1 Gb of RAM.
With two sticks of 512 Mb of RAM are you sure you got a total of 192 Mb of RAM, this is a lot less than the original RAM total of 512 Mb?
Should this be 1920 Mb of RAM?
If this 192 Mb is correct then the RAM modules are either not compatible with the laptop or if the RAM modules are not from the same manufacturer then they may not work together.

Most laptops have video cards that use part of the main RAM for video RAM, that is why the available RAM is less than the installed RAM modules. The amount of RAM the video card grabs depends upon the type of video card and in some cases the amount of video RAM can controlled in the BIOS setting.

Installed RAM not Recognised

It may not be a valid combination of sizes or speeds.
Look up your server at www.crucial.com using their memory finder.
They should have detailed information.

MEMORY UPGRADE

Sorry for the delay in my response.

Your computer will accept a maximum of 1 GB of memory. If both memory modules are the same brand and part number then it is possible that one of the sticks are bad.

Try each 512 MB memory stick in the first memory slot, without installing a second stick. This will troubleshoot to find out if one of the 512 memory sticks are bad. If both check out ok, then the problem is with the video adaptor.

Have you tried adjusting the refresh rate on the monitor as I described in my first response?

My final possible solution would be to upgrade the bios. Below is a link to the webpage for your computer system. You will find links for troubleshooting guides, driver and software downloads, product specifications, etc. If you click on driver downloads, then choose your operating system, you will be directed to a page that should provide the latest ROM (bios) update.

What are the ram limits on a compaq presario 5000a. I put 256 ram in the compaq and it only reads 128. Why?

You can install up to 3 sticks of 512 mb of memory. Did you add a 256 stick to the already-existing 128? You need to put DDR266/PC2100 memory. To troubleshoot, remove the 128 stick and put your 256 in and see if it is recognized. You will know right away from the bios screen. Memory needs to be the same type.

Can't Install RAM in DDR2 and DDR3 DIMM slots

You cannot use DDR and DDR2 ram at the same time, because its always been like that (ie, no SD and DDR, or SD and RIMM)

What you should do is switch to all DDR2 sticks.
