Well this is common on your model in most cases it will be a bad picture tube or bad video crt board. if this is the case a repair will cost more than the tv new.

Might be a problem related to clash of picture tube.... Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works.. it will fdefinitely work....

Hi,

'Your post description could be interpreted technically two (2) ways:

  • low color or black & white. the color system is faulty. this would involve an IC and a crystal reference (3.58MHz);
  • it is getting overly bright (hence the faint lines) and the color(s) are too low.
Depending on which of the above, diagnostic procedures and corrective measures would be:
  • verify if crystal is still working;
  • verify that the color IC is putting out the correct color bias;
  • check if any of the 3 color drive transistors at the PCB by the CRT's end is faulty or cold soldered;
  • adjust the SCREEN control at the back of the FBT.
This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Glad to be of assistance and appreciate the rating too.

    Incidentally, this site has addressed another possibility for the faint white lines issues as originally posted by meknow and crapmail8976 in this post.

If these lines are just at the top of the picture then i would suspect an electrolytic capacitor in the vertical circuit.

    Then there's a flat cap in the vertical out. As a general shotgun
    assessment, replace all electrolytic capacitors in the vertical section
    and it will likely be fixed. Nothing to try if you're not
    electro-tinkering inclined

We have a new HDLCDVD220 Sansui television. The rabbit ears antennae we were using on our old tv worked ok, but on this one. its awful. There is almost no color and terrible reception. We were told to get...

You mentioned rabbit ears for old tv, how old are the rabbit ears? Time and humidity will make rabbit ears lose connections internally. Also, if your old rabbit ears have the flat cable going to the tv you probably had to add a converter to go to the new tv. The flat cable will lose signal strength were ever the cable touches metal. Also the adapter will cause signal lose. The best bet is to buy an amplified indoor antenna. You also may try a paper clip and about 3to4' of small gauge wire put the paper clip (bend out to fit) into the center of the antenna in on the tv have the wire connected and let it hang or lift it to see how the picture improves. The problem with rabbit ears is that you have to use war time tactics. Crawl on your stomach and adjust to best picture, if you stand and adjust the signal is usually reflected off your body and will be nice until you walk away.

17 yr. old 35" RCA loses color intermittently. Picture & sound ok

Three guns Red Blue and Green in the picture tube of an old CRT set. If one of the guns goes out it effects that color. Sounds like one of the guns inside of the tube is going out, To costly to replace for such an old antilog set that will have to have a convertor box next month anyway.

No red in picture

It could be a dry solder joint on the base socket pcb. Try resoldering the base socket, and try for dry joints on the main board also. Check if the rgb voltages are steady on the crt driver transistor bases.
