I kept hitting the disc exhange/eject button to turn the unit on and after a couple of tries it finally opened about half way. The whole reason i wanted to open it was to get the last dvd that i watch out of it. Well in doing so i noticed that there were some discs rattling around up underneath the cd tray (from my 1 1/2 year old). After shaking the unit a couple of times i was able to get the discs out of the underside of the disc tray. When i hit the disc exchange to close the try the unit powered up, closed the tray, and operated fine and i am back to using it like i used to with out any other problems.

Reading code f61

pop cover plug in with med to light pressure on the heat sink press down gently and push one way just a tad , press power , see how long to shut down. do same other direction. what you should find is that the solder connections are bad and need to be redone. this is not the first pan. that has had this problem, some of there other stereos do to.

At power on, displays F61 code and switches off

F61 is an error code.
It will automatically shuts down your unit.
This is very common on your unit.

Try to checked if the fan is working or not.
I have repaired some unit before, this is the caused why f61 appeared.
The symptom is shutting down the unit after a few minute.
If the fan is not working it will shuts off automatically to avoid further damaged to your output I.C. from overheating.

If confirmed that the fan is working then I've suspect that your output I.C./pre-amplifier circuit is faulty.
This is quit technical and need to send to repair shop to isolate the faulty parts.
The output IC of your unit is RSN series and quite expensive.

Pls rate my help.

Thaks for using fixya...

WHAT DOES F61 MEAN ON DISPALY SCREEN

Panasonic customer service told me it was a problem with the power supply. I took it to a local repair shop and it turned out to be the cooling fan. Pretty cheap fix. This is the last Panasonic product I will purchase

My sc-ht744 wont turn on just displays f61 and shuts down

Sounds like a short in the speaker wire or your polarity is incorrect ,black is negative and red is positive ,just double check theese before next step also the ic501 power module has been known to solve this problem if its not the wire,s because either of theese two failures will cause the error code too pop-up, Honestly this has been a problem with this unit and you are not alone , If the power module in the unit needs to be replaced ,call up customer service at panasonic and maybe your still under waranty where they,ll fix it for free !Thank you and hope I might have been able to help you in some way ,Sincerely Glenn

F61 fault

Although the Panasonic Home Theater systems are great when they work properly. If your machine displays the "f61" error message, it's likely to be little more than a paper weight for the average person. The inner workings of the machine are rather complex to disassemble for diagnostics. And can take several hours to check all the components. The best advice I can give you is to sell the machine on e-bay as a broken item. If you offer shipping you can get more money for a complete system (speakers & all).

Panasonic SA-HT940

F61 is a problem with the output amplifier pac. It is the equivalent of "protect" mode. The output pac needs to be replaced. I'll look up the part number for you.
