Question about 2wire HomePortal 1800HG Router (1000400229000)
I am trying to use services like Box.net and www.myfreefilehosting.com among others, but none of them seem to be working, i just cant upload files into any of those services. I belive that it is some sort of configuration from my modem, because when I take my Laptop to college, everything seems to work just fine.
And also sometimes i cant Use Windows Live Messenger or check my e-mail because the browser just gets stuck after I type my e-mail and password. And i bought a new Desktop computer yesterday witha fresh copy of Windows XP home edition and it has the same exact problem.
What can be causing this?
Check your file sharing settings, you might have your settings set to not allow file share.

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

How do you connect to the 2wire 2700HG? Wireless or ethernet? In any case I suggest to access the mdc (management and diagnostic console) of your 2wire and check the DSL Diagnostics under the Troubleshooting Category. Check the attenuation rate of your 2wire there so you can see if external problems are affecting the 2wire. The 2wire is also a modem\router and eventough it rarely affects the speed of your connection, the 2wire Firewall might also affect the speed of your cx. Another thing to check are the electrical interference on your 2wire. EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) do affect the 2wire router greatly. I mean it LITERALLY. A great Interference can cut your signal strength from full bars to 1 bar even tough your just 10 feet away from the router. You can also check the Broadband Status on the Network at a Glance Page to check if the speed are jumping in and out. And also try to contact your Internet Service Provider or the 2wire direct technical support (1-877-3478680) for further assistance. God Bless!

Here is the solution obtained from my supplier, and this worked well for me:
If you have installed a 2Wire router/modem 1000/1701/1800/2700 series, and can surf the web just fine apart from some websites, such as MySpace, eBay and Hotmail, you may need to adjust your MTU settings.
Log into the router's management console page at page at http://192.168.1.254/mdc
On the left side under "Advanced", click on "Configure Services"
Set the "Force Upstream MTU" value to 1396 then hit Submit. Reboot the modem/router.
Check out this for installation procedure:
Try this to check out how fast your modem is working. It seems speed varies a lot depending on how busy other subscribers are who are sharing facilities.

Have you tried simply running the Network Connection Wizard from control panel? Here is a link to a basic guide. I'm not sure I understand whether there's an issue with the connecting computer or if you want to set up a host/client shared connection. If the latter see here. Does this apply to your situation?
Take a look at this post, and also see the FAQ sections of the same site for endless help.
You can also access 2wire tech support here.
If you think there may be some corruption in the 2nd computer, run chkdsk according to instructions here and here.
You might also have a look in the Device Manager and make sure the network adapter is working properly. It will show an exclamation point or question mark if it's having problems.
Your connection is behind the 2wire firewall, which should be turned on. If you mean your system firewall, OK for now...
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

You did everything correctly so far, and your 2wire is getting the signal and info it needs. The unable to contact config server error is not a problem, as thats just 2wires update server, which wont hurt anything if not found. The password defaults back to 8 because of security issues, its still the same one you entered, so thats fine also. Now one thing you should try is the only thing different about the 2 routers. The 2wire has a built in firewall in it, try turning it off for your computer. Click on the firewall tab, then firewall settings. Select your computer and put the dot in DMZ mode and save it. Then restart the pc and see if it works after that. Other then that it could be a problem with the 2wire itself, since you are authenticating fine with your Internet provider.
