Kitchen Aid 550 Pro Mixer New Worm Gear and Worm Gear Follower Issue

It would be helpful to get the model number and serial number off of the bottom of the mixer. This will help determine if the gearing has changed at all.

Usually when a mixer is making a lot of noise after replacing the gears we can find a small nick or gouge in the gear. even the smallest damage can cause these mixers to make a lot of noise. Also if you have an older mixer there was a change in the worm gear from 53 teeth to 60 teeth on the gear. If your mixer originally took a 53 tooth gear, and you replaced it with the 60 tooth gear it will make a lot of noise like you are describing.

So first check your serial number, if the first 4 digits are after WL45 your mixer would have a 60 tooth gear, however if it is a WL44 or before you would have originally had a 53 tooth gear and this is what is causing the loud noise.

If your mixer is new enough that it took the 60 tooth gear, then take the mixer apart, clean and remove all gears, clean them off with wd-40 and inspect closely, even the smallest chip can cause a ton of noise.

If you have any questions, or you cannot find the problem feel free to contact us at The Mending Shed.

I purchased a used Kenmore Stand Mixer Model KSM100 that makes a loud grinding noise when its running. I need a manual and advise on how to repair it.

I am sorry Roland. I have searched for this manual but it appears to be unavailable.
You can post a request on www.manualsonline.com and someone who has a similar product may upload it for you.
By the way this service on Fixya.com is only for sourcing manuals and not providing service information.
The grinding noise may be due to bearing failure in the motor or gear failure.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

My KitchenAid mixer will not turn it makes a loud noise.

thebsjunk - I don't know if you've canned the old mixer. If you've bought a new KA, congratulations to Kitchenaid. If you haven't, there's still a possiblilty that you might be able to fix it yourself. (For the price of KA mixers you'd think they's last a 'lifetime', but alas, KA quality is sorely lacking from their current products...but I editorialize.)
It's quite possilbe that you've had a gear tooth break in the transmission, which would lock up and prevent the planetary gear (agitator) from rotating in mixing bowl. This is what happend to my wife's 6 Quart Pro KA mixer. Since it was out of warranty, I decided to troubleshoot myself. First I downloaded the Parts List manual from the KA website so I knew what to expect. Then I easily disassemble the mixer to find that a bevel gear tooth had broken. After ordering the correct parts, and reassembling, it works better than when we first upacked it. The loud whining is absent...
If the motors gone bad, you can still replace that, too. Fixing your mixer yourself is much easier than shipping it off to a repair center, and you have the gratification of doing it yourself.
I hope this helps! Howard, Burke, VA

Theres a loud squeaking noise when the mixer turned on

Hi. These mixers normaly make a lot of noise when in operation. Go to the shop that sold it to you, or any place that has these units on display and ask them to turn on the mixer for a demonstration. If their mixer does not make the same noise, then contact Kitchenaid Customer Service and ask for a replacement under warranty. If this solution assists you, please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45

Grinding Noise

If it's metallic sound you are loosing teeth on a gear or two.  This is caused by lack of lubricant or simply fatigue of the material of the gears.  Don't use it, you can get metal flakes in your food.

Take it in to a repair shop and have it fixed.  The money spent is well worth it because if done correctly will last another 12 years.
