I TURN MY SWITCH ON FOR 30 MITUTES TO DRY CLOTHES BUT I CHECK DRYER IN 1 HOUR LATER AND IT'S STILL ON 30 MINUTES AND NOT TURNING THE DRYER OFF UNLESS I TURN IT OFF MANUAL. WHAT IS THE PROBLE?
have same problem (kirkland gas dryer), but the timer/cycle knob is not moving at all. Heat is working, but dryer will keep going unless knob is manually moved to 'off' or door is opened to break the cycle.

A clothes dryer is as simple as heat and airflow just like a hair dryer. If you have heat then you are probably lacking airflow. Check that the vent is not crushed or pinched behind the dryer and also make sure the main line is not full of lint or anything else that could be blocking airflow. If this is beyond your skill, strength, or aggravation level then you can call a dryer vent cleaning company. Timed dry cycle is the old reliable setting and clothes should be dry between 30 and 50 minutes. The "best" cycle on a dryer is one that utilizes a moisture sensor bar and thermister to determine drying time without over drying the clothes. This will be found on cycles other than timed dry if your dryer has that feature. Always pay attention to the care labels on your clothing as they will tell you how to care for your clothing such as "tumble dry low temperature".
the cause of this is a bad timer switch it is the switch directly under the knob you turn to set the time on the dryer. You can purchase a new one on amazon or buy one from tribbles in timonium.
Check the exhaust vent when running and be sure there is a good flow of air. You may have to clean the exhaust pipes all the way through. Dryers require a good flow of air for proper operation.

Maytag Bravos 400 Series Dryer purchased August 2009 - November 2009 required repair as I also experience the timer readjusting itself to excessive extended drying time when clothing was bone dry and hot. Sometimes extended to 1 hour 40 minutes! Serviceman stated problem was the Sensors in the dryer. Part number 8577274 Thermister and "Old Ohmed out open" whatever that means as listed on my repair ticket. Have not had that particular problem since. Make sure your dryer vents from dryer to outside are clean and clear of lint. Will help immensely. I have many other issues with this dryer it has been down FOUR times in 9 months. Fighting with Maytag to replace this lemon!
1 start with claening the sensor strips located just inside the unit itself under the lint filter. pop yourheadinside dryer drum andyoull see 2 metal strips. witha scotchbrite pad, give it ascouruing, to remove any build up form fabric softener / dryer sheets
2 check for good, not kinked or clogged venting
3 replace the thermsitor about 30 bucks.
will pursue that and let you know - thanks !
