Question about GE GSS20IEP Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Water/ice dispenser My water/ice dispenser does not dispense water or ice.The problem started with the ice but now has progressed to the water. The freezer still makes ice. The water has just stopped working altogther, it used to be only when one tried to get ice that the water would not work but now it doesn't work at all. Also the light kind of like flickers as well We have had problems with our water/ice dispenser since we have had the refrigerator. The ice would freeze up and the dispenser doesn't work but just recently the water does not work at all either. I just need to know what to do to fix the water because we use the water all the time. Thanks.

We have pretty much the same problem. Started that the water and ice dispensers would not work all the time. Eventually they quit working completely, however the ice maker still makes ice. The light flickers too.

However, we have also experienced the whole fridge and freezer not working twice now. We were able to get the fridge and freezer to work again.

There is also a clicking sound coming from the back of the fridge - the mother board - for about 5 to 10 minutes and then quits and fridge starts working again.

I want to remove the water dispenser and filter on my ge profile top freezer refrig as it takes up too much room in the fridge and we don't use it anyway. Can I just remove the screws holding the filter and plastic housing box or will I cause a flood and or damage the ice making function that I still want to use??????

Hi george i will try to help firts i want you to try this. pull off the bottom grill or kick plate and make sure that the wire harness is connected and not loose they get loose a lot on this brand. now if they are look at the water line conector but the bottom hinge disconect it for there and close the door and ask for wtr at the lever if you get water the you have frozen line inside door if no water then check the resevour inside the refrigerator and make sure is not frozen if it is ok then if you model hasa mother board at the back repl when both ice and wtr go out that is usually the problem i see it every day ok take the model number with when you buy the part sothey can give the right board ok.

GE GSH25JFRF BB ice maker doesn't dispense. Water dispenses and ice maker makes ice but won't come out.

There should be a plastice hinge cover on the left top hinge on freezer door. Take it off and press the plug together firmly. Try that and let me know, Sea Breeze

GE Refridge GSH25JFXBB Ice but no water

This is solution to frozen water 'plug' preventing water dispense but ice maker still making ice. I first tried a suggested fix from this site to just leave dispenser light on overnight. I added some aluminum foil sealed over the module with a little tape to hold in heat. By morning still no water dispensed BUT I escalated the suggested fix by 1.) placing a large mug of boiling water in the compartment behind the aluminum foil 'cover' heat seal and 2.) added a small bean bag heating/cooling pad [heated in microwave] to the ice chute in the door from the freezer side. After one change out of the two 'heat sources' (about 30 min)...viola! Water dispensing again; proving it was an ice plug in the water dispenser. NOTE: When first adding the heating bag to the ice chute in the door, I found that a good bit of frost had formed at the top of the ice chute, so it appears this problem arose when someone (maybe even me) didn't close the freezer door completely due to overcrowding in that section of the freezer pushing against the freezer section door.

Icemaker does not make ice, however water gets dispensed ok

Check your freezer temp. Ice makers need for the freezer to get down to a certain temp for it to work.

Ice maker makes ice but freezes before it can be dispensed so the dispenser is always clogged with frozen ice. Cleaned out the ice maker and started over but same results. The temp is set at 38 for the...

Hi, The freezer should be "0", the possible clogging you have could be a leaking water valve or an over filling ice maker. I would have the ice maker checked for volume of water dispenser during harvest, should be 5.5 oz. (2/3 cup), if more the 6 oz. the ice maker is bad. If fails to stop filling or leaks/drips, replace the water valve behind the unit.
I hope this helps.

GE refrig/freezer dispenser makes ice, but no dispensing of water

The dispensor water line , is probably trying to freeze , inside the door . raise the freezer control slightly warmer , to keep this from happening . May take 2 or 3 raisings to find the proper temp . Also , you can order a dispensor heat kit , pt # WR49X10173 , which comes with installation instructions .

Water dispenser inside fridge and ice maker in freezer part in bottom both quit working.

There can be many reasons for no water supply. Line feeding the refrigerator is clogged or blocked. The water control valve that turns water to ice maker and dispenser is defective or the water filter located inside your refrigerator is in need of change. I will be here to help you go through the steps. Let me know when you are ready, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Internal water dispenser stopped working

I lowered the temp on the freezer to 4 overnight, by morning water dispenser is working fine. I think that when we changed the temp to 7 (in order to make more ice ) it froze the water pipe going to the dispenser. I am going to keep both fridge and freezer at 5 ,and hope this will not happen again.

Dispenser

Sounds like a control fault on the microswitch to activate the ice and water line. Access to this is immediately behind the ice dispenser section (just above) on the freezer door. Normal access is two screws located behind the removal drip tray section. Either that or the control board for the ice dispenser as you are not getting water as well. Before taking this section apart though you should hear a buzzing sound when you activate the chilled water, if you do then you may have a water supply problem. Hope this helps.

Water/ice dispenser

if you take the kick plate off below the doors, youll see a small wire harness on the left hand side. youll see a plastic conection where the wires come together. one or more wires are broken. its a pretty common problem with ge. if you cut the conector off and use butt conectors to reconnect the wire matching the colors you wont have the problem anu more
