I want to get my daughter an mp3 player for Christmas and I'm overloaded with
information about which to get. So I thought I'd ask people who know more about
them than me :-)
I've been told that the rechargeable battery in iPods pack up after a year or
so. I assume this is bs but is there any truth in this?
The mp3 player in question must have a display, preferably a rechargeable
battery (one that you don't have to let go flat before recharging) though I see
the Sony Walkman has 70 hours battery life and I think at least 512 MB. She
wants to be able to put her favourite tracks from her CDs. No need for video or
FM tuner. She doesn't jog so I don't suppose a HDD one is a problem - unless you
know different.
Price? I was probably going up to around ??130.
My current favourite is the Sony NWE405 (512 MB, 50 hours rechargeable, plays
mp3, WAV, WMA and ATRAC(?), ??100 in Argos - ooh ??88 at Amazon).

Weird, mine had the same problem when I dropped it, but it was too late to
send it back.

volume wheel broke). This could use Windows Explorer as well as own
software. Interested in the NWA1000 but If the sony can act as a spare
drive/memory, can't it use this to transfer mp3 files?
Any thoughts, Colin

it too :-s with no ill effects, (phew) battery life is excellent, at
least 18 hours, up to 24 if the volume is kept at sensible level ;-)
and you stick to one specific format while listening, I always use
MP3 although it will play other stuff, but it's a little over your
price mark at ??166.94 from Amazon. They only appear to be selling it
through their agenty things though :-( I think it's worth your while
to check out the Creative Labs MP3 players

replacements very easily.
For 20 quid extra you can get a SONY NWA1000 from comet (and probably less
elsewhere) which is a 6gb very smart looking one.
I just got a cheap second hand iPod but if that hadn't cropped up I probably
would have bought one of them instead.
