Question about GE Monogram ZISx420DR 42-inch Side by Side Panel Ready Built-In Refrigerator with Dispenser

1 Answer

Refrigerator door not closing tightly

Our GE Monogram side-by-side refrigerator is about 2 years old and has been working fine until the last week or so. The refigerator door used to close tightly with a magnetic seal strong enough that it required a strong tug to open it and when the door closed a fan would immediately turn on. (I'm assuming it came on to re-regulate the temperature inside.)

Now when we tug on the handle to open the door it opens very easily and when it closes the fan doesn't come on. When closed, the door also appears to stick out a little more than the freezer door even though the rubber seal makes smooth, uninterrupted contact all the way around. The freezer side door works just fine, both sides (refrigerator and freezer) are maintaining their normal temperatures and we don't have any problems with frost or moisture.

Is there some adjustment we can make to get the door to seal strongly again? (Ours is the 36" SXS, not 42".)

My GE Monogram freezer was repaired recently to replace the control unit in back. Ever since the technician worked on it, the freezer door doesn't close properly. The "wind" generated by the refrigerator door closing makes the freezer door open.

I just got the same problem tonight except the refrig door closes fine but the freezer door doesn't seem to seal up properly - like the magnet isn't pulling it or something. It's affecting the temp in the freezer inside as I can see the ice is starting to melt.

I have the same problem. A GE technician was out last week to replace a fan motor on my Monogram ZIS48NYB and now the door won't stay closed.

My ZIS 36 refirgerator door doesn't pull closed like it used too. It seems as if the magnet isn't working if there is one. I will think the door is closed and then the door alarm will tell me it's not closed. I have taken everything oout of the door and it hasn't made a difference.

The freezer temperature varies over periods of days/ weeks from -19 to -6 degrees regardless of how often the door is opened or closed. I have pulled it out from it's surrounding cupboards to improve...

I just recently had that problem with a monogram, it turned out to be the temp control unit it's inside the refrigerator. It's control board gets a little corded from the moisture. You can unscrew it pretty easy, 2 screws and examine the board. If you see corrosion or burns on the solder points Just order a new one.

My refrigerator won't stay cold. The freezer is working but not the refrig side

I have the GE Monogram ZISB480 side by side. Once again I have your same problem of the freezer freezing (good), but the refrig does not go below 45-50. All the official repair guy did was do a quick 1 hour defrost. I did that also just two weeks ago and it was fine. Now it is not cold enough again. I just looked in the freezer using a mirror I was able to push a 2"x2" trap door open towards the fridge. It must be automated and malfunctioning. Why the heck the repair guy didn't work on that? This week I'll call for another repair job ($85 for him to just come to my door) and ask him to fix the trap door. -Bob

Turns out the problem was because we didn't shut the freezer door tightly. The temperature re4set itself in about three hours. All OK and no expense :-)

GE monorgram frost in the ice shute

Sounds like the ice door in the dispenser isn't closing properly or all the way which lets warm air in condensates then freezes.
