Problem connecting Black & Decker leaf blower switch

Last Fall, my Black & Decker leaf blower stopped working abruptly. By bypassing the two switches (main & safety), I confirmed that the motor was working perfectly. So, it had to be one or both of the switches. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited until now to order new parts.

I just received the order today and noticed that the new main on-off switch pictured above has a wire connected to one of the switch end terminals. The old one does not. The power wires were connected to the available terminals on the on-off switch (bottom and 2nd. from top terminals), which completed the circuit.

On the new switch, this wire is connected to a terminal which is connected to another component (resistor?). So, what do I do with this extra wire?

Thank you.

SOURCE: My motor brushes at end

Try Platt Electrical supply - 800-257-5288 ( BLACK & DECKER #89754-01 REPLACEMENT BRUSH. It seems the entire motor head was manufactured by DeWalt and is now obsolete. I don't know if these brushes will fit, but someone there may help.
Good Luck!

Will start but wont run.runs only a second

It is possible that the ON/OFF switch is bad or the wires that connect to the switch are loose and are not making permanent contact. Check the switch.

The engine stopped running even afetr changing electrical cords and outlets. Can it be repaired?

Yes, but you may find it as cost effective to purchase another. It could have an onboard circuit breaker, or on-off switch bad, and even the motor itself.

The BV4000 works only on low speed. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I disassembled the blower housing (orange). The switch is a momentary closed 2 position rocker (DPST?). Anyway, I sprayed electrical contact cleaner inside the switch as well as electrical lubricant. I also sprayed silicone on the convoluted switch linkage. That took care of the problem.

Black and decker leaf hog on off switch schematic Switch doesn't engage

Take out all the screws. Gently remove half of the case. Put a shim in behind the plastic pivot that rocks the switch. I rolled up a 1/2" by 3" piede of duct tape and jammed into the back of the oval socket for the rocker. This pushes the rocker against the switch hard enough so that it rocks the switch properly. Snap the case into place and test the switch before you put the screws back in to make sure it is now working properly.

Black and Decker leaf hog, worked fine last use.

I posted this solution on another similar thread, but it may pertain here.
I have this unit. Mine stopped working today after being warm on the handle the last few uses. I opened the unit up (torx 15) and smelled, then found that a fused wire coming off the motor had burned/melted/separated at a plastic plug right inside the handle. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with it, but in this same compartment of the handle there was an anti-theft strip floating around. I called BandD and they said the BV4000 type ONE has been recalled.

My black and decker leafhog blower/vac smells like something is burning

Black and Decker has issued a recall notice for Type 1 BV4000 because "a loose connection between the unit and an extension cord can create heat, posing a possible fire hazard" Says to STOP USING and call 1-866-853-2138 to arrange for free repair. (Found info by Googling "Black and Decker Leafhog", navigate to Black and Decker website and click "Important Safety Recalls" button at bottom of page.)
