Question about Toshiba (K000680310) for Satellite 1605CDS, 1625CDT, 1675CDS, 1695CDT
My Toshiba 1625CDT CD-ROM does not work. It is shown in My Computer as D:, but when I place a a CD in the drive, and click D:, it reports not accessible.
There are no errors shown in the Settings, System, Device Drivers.
I have Win98 on the system. The drive cables are fully seated. I'm not sure if the drive spins up.
How can I check what is wrong? What is the fix?
How old is the cd-rom? Dust, and years of use can cause the laser to wear out or misalign.Try blowing hard inside with the drawer open (silly, isn't it? but I am not joking. my place is dust prone and I have to do that all the time). But if it is as old as the operating system, maybe it is time to get a new drive.
