Paper jam open cover A and remove paper error

I am getting a paper jam open cover A and remove paper error every time I try to print from tray 1, it does not even pull the paper from tray 1. Prints fine from tray 2 and the bypass tray. I have replaced the paper feed roller, the paper feed clutch, the paper tray and the paper feed motor to no avail. When I remove the right side cover and watch the mechanism everything is turning (feed clutch, motor, shaft for the roller) but still will not pull from tray 1. Any thoughts? Thanks Russ

The machine type is a Ricoh SP C420DN

  • Russ Lawson Jan 23, 2012

I have the solution for the problem I listed, and it seems to be a problem with several Ricoh models. The paper feed shaft is not locked into place by a c-clip or anything, so consequently at times it will slide out just enough to disengage from the coupling. Slide the shaft back into place by pushing in and turning it until you feel it slide into place. Ricoh has no known fix for this issue. I checked with them.

Hi,

. Switch off the printer and disconnect the power supply. Allow any residual charge inside the all-in-one printer to dissipate before putting your hands or any metal tools inside the chassis.

2.
Pin down the exact location of the jam. The 3 hot spots for a jam are before a sheet completely leaves the paper tray, anywhere between the feed tray and print carriage or between the print carriage and output tray.

3.
Take off the front paper tray if the sheet jammed while still in the front area of the printer. If here, you should be able to see most of the paper.

4.
Pull the sheet with both hands and steady pressure. Do not tug as you might rip the paper, leaving a piece deeper inside the machine.

5.
Open the back panel to reach paper jammed between the feed-tray area and print carriage. Carefully remove the jammed paper.

6.
Use the carriage access door to get at a jam further inside the printer. You may need to remove the print carriage to get to the jam.

7.
Replace all parts and return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug your printer back in and flip the power switch.

SOURCE: HP paper jam

That is usually caused by the paper feed rollers being cover with paper dust. Take a clean cotton pad and alcohol and clean the rollers :turninig each roller as you clean it. if it has a rear dor, open it to get better access to the rollers.

SOURCE: hp laserjet 8100 8150 13.1.42

hp printers typically do not have an error message to cover every known condition, thus if the printer needs maintenance in an undefined area, it will invariably indicate a paper jam. The printer usually responds to the installation of a maintenance kit which will include transfer roller, pickup rollers, and fuser.

T652n 202.03 paperjam

1Open the upper-front cover and remove the toner cartridge.2
Look into the printer. Remove any jammed sheets of paper that you find there.

  • If the print job only consisted of this one page, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If the print job consisted of more than one page, confirm the entire paper path is clear before printing again. Do the following:

    1. Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1').
    2. Remove any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper you find here, then reinstall the tray.
    3. Go around to the back of the machine and open the upper-rear cover. Remove any jammed sheets of paper you find, then close the cover.
    4. Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path is clear, reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover.
    5. Press the pattlnk_10162008_2247-select_button.jpg button to clear the error, and then try printing again.

  • If you cannot locate any jammed paper under the toner cartridge, then check the rest of the printer for any jammed paper. Do the following:

    • Remove the top paper tray ('Tray 1') and look for any jammed or partially-fed sheets of paper.
    • If you do not find any jammed pages there, reinstall the tray and go around to the back of the machine. Open the upper-rear cover and look there.
    • If the entire paper path appears to be clear, close the rear cover and power off the printer. Reinstall the toner cartridge and close the front cover. Power the printer back on. If a 200 error continues on power up, a sensor in the printer may be malfunctioning. This will require a service call to correct the issue. Unable to print or copy, see troubleshooting 51

The error means you have a paper jam or one of the sensors is incorrectly reading a paper jam. Unplug the unit and check all areas for a jam. Remove the back Jam Clear Cover and check inside there. Remove the Paper Tray and check that area and check if the PE actuator is in place behind the paper tray. Lift the scanner flatbed unit and check inside the print carriage area. Look for scraps of paper at the sides of the platen. These scraps that may be soaked with ink and difficult to see. You may need to move the print head to see both sides.

If the PE actuator is missing, contact Brother for a replacement. Put in the replacement if needed.

Close the scanner unit, replace the clear jam cover (put it on correctly) and replace the paper tray. Plug in and turn on the printer and see if the message clears. If it doesn't clear, access the Ink or Ink Management menu (either directly by a single key or through the menus). Do a test print for Print Quality (Color). If the quality is good, press 1, the up arrow or + key to select Yes. Then press the Stop/Exit button. If the print quality is poor, clean the print head.

If the jam message occurs again, check for more scraps of paper inside the unit as above. Make sure your paper meets the specifications for the printer and isn't getting excessively humid. (Paper will pick up moisture from the atmosphere so keep only the needed amount in open reams or the paper tray.) Fan the paper in the tray and then return it to the paper tray. Make sure the paper is flat in the tray and that the guides are just touching the edge of the paper.

If it still doesn't clear, the unit needs service.

I hope this helps.

Paper jam and still won't print

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Before you can clear the error message, you must locate where in the unit the paper is jammed.

Unplug the machine for safety. Now follow these instructions based on where the paper jam is located.

1. Pull the paper tray out of the machine.
2. Pull out the jammed paper.
3. Reset the machine by opening the Upper Jam Clear Cover and then closing it.

If you cannot remove the jammed paper from the front of the machine, or the error message still appears on the LCD after you have removed the jammed paper, please go to the next step.

4. Remove the Lower Jam Clear Cover from the back of the machine. Pull the jammed paper out of the machine.

5. Put the Lower Jam Clear Cover back on. Make sure the cover is set properly.

6. Open the Upper Jam Clear Cover. Make sure that there is no jammed paper left in the corners of the machine.
Note: If the paper is jammed under the print head, unplug the machine from the power source, then move the print head to take out the paper. 7. Close the Upper Jam Clear Cover.

8. Close the output paper tray cover and slide it forward, then push the paper tray firmly back into the machine. While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support until it clicks and unfold the paper support flap.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

  6. Once you have confirmed that the entire paper path is clear, reinstall the print cartridge assembly. Close all the printer covers/doors. Reinstall any paper trays you removed.
  7. Press the Continue button to resume printing. NOTE: The printer should reprint the page(s) that caused the paper jam.
  8. If the paper continues to jam, press the Continue button twice quickly while the Continue and Paper Jam lights are on. This will cause the operator panel to display the secondary error paper jam light sequence. The secondary error code will tell you where the printer thinks the problem has arisen.
