You can't go back to XP; after loading Win-8. Can upgrade it to Win-10.
If you want to load winXP again, replace the Hard Disc with an other one; and try.

It will be best to load the computer with Win-7; rather than loading Win XP; as update support to Win XP is not in air since 5 months. Microsoft have stopped the update.
Load it with Windows-7 Ultimate. It is the best O/S.

Panasonic cf-74 toughbook cannot load win xp proff. i can load win 7 from usb drive, i can load win vista from cd disk. hdd shows up in bios, when trying to load win xp loads fine until says starting...

It sounds to me like you requre Win'XP Service Pack 3.
If you are using Service Pack 2 or earlier, there is no
SATA support which is why the HDD is not recognized.

Get Service Pack 3 and your problems will be solved.

Good Luck

Try to re-install 2 Operating systems use this order,
1,Install windows XP by booting the XP cd,

Then while you restart computer there will be a prompt menu asking to select OS to start. Thanks

I have win 7 and win xp loaded on my lap..How can I delet xp now?

You need to check if there any Boot Information in partition that is used by WinXP. In this situation best way is to reinstall Win7, and format all your partitions as you want in Win7 installations process.

HP Scanjet 4850 worked fine until I replaced the OS with XP SP3

win xp is 10 years out of date so you have lost the driver for the printer by the upgrade
If you go to the hp web site there may be still a down load for your model printer that is compatible to win xp
if so select that and down load it
run the down load when asked
AS win xp , win 7 are both out of date and no longer supported by Microsoft you should consider installing win 10
