I HAVE THE ADA745 THAT CAME WITH MY DELL SYSTEM FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS. THE VOLUME ON THE SATELITE SPEAKERS IS VERY LOW. THIS JUST STARTED TO HAPPEN 2 DAYS AGO. I PLUGGED ANOTHER PAIR OF SPEAKERS TO MY SOUND CARD AND ALL IS WELL. I FIGURED THAT THE FUSE WAS BLOWN ON THE SUBWOOFER BUT WHEN I TOOK IT OUT, IT LOOKED FINE. I WOULD LIKE TO REPLACE THE FUSE FIRST ANYWAY BUT CAN'T MAKE OUT THE REPLACEMENT TYPE. I THINK IT SAYS REPLACE WITH T2 OR T3 250V.....NOT REALLY SURE (OLD, BAD EYES). PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TYPE FUSE I NEED AND AFTER I REPLACE IT, IF THAT DOESN'T WORK ANY SUGGESTIONS TO WHAT TO DO NEXT.
THANK YOU,
LAWRENCE P OVERBY

check whether the adapter is fine or not..
that may also be a problem...

It is written on the sub. You can also take it out or look at the spare which is taped to the power cord wall plug. I believe it's T1A 250V fuse

Yes, it's a 1A 250V glass fuse, 0.75" (1.9cm) long. The only other number on the fuse is "239", if that means anything. You take it out by putting a flat screwdriver in the slot on the fuse holder cap, turn counter-clockwise, and pull out once it releases.

It sounds like the subwoofer speaker has blown. If you are comfortable working with a soldering iron and speakers then you can open the case and replace the speaker with a replacement subwoofer speaker. A good online store for replacement speakers is PartsExpress.com

i have the same problem, and i replaced the fuse-it is a 1 amp, 250 v fuse, small. mine came with a spare attached to the electrical cord. but i replaced the fuse and the volume is still super low, so im back to square one.
i have these same speakers and the volume got barely audible.
i discovered that the cable connected to the right front speaker (with volume control) might be bad. if i pushed it in all the way on the subwoofer, power light would come on but hardly any volume. if i pushed the cable in part way, two of the speakers would work fine, but the power light on the right front speaker wouldn't come on.
as yet, i haven't been able to completly fix the problem.
My Altec ADA745 also purchased with Dell Computer got very faint and then failed entirely about 6 months ago. After reading Steve 741 I found like him that by putting the right front connector in part way I could get all four speakers to work fine but no light. I had to jiggle it to find the right place which was very delicate. I can live with that but would like the thing to be fully functional.
The sound from my ADA745's (also purchased from Dell) is as well nonexistant. I found that if I toggled the on/off switch back and forth I sometimes was able to get sound - but for only brief periods. I thought it was a faulty on/off switch. Looking for a service centre near Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada.
This might help. As of yet, ihave not tried, but it seems to fit with right front speaker volume control issue. Hopefully this will work.
