BAKE SECTION OF OVEN FAILS TO IGNITE BROILER LIGHTS

Our broiler lights and burns perfectly. The broiler fire comes from the top. However, the bake burner fails to ignite or burn. I took the cover off of the area over of the glo-bar for the bake area and it does NOT glow or appear to come on. Do I need replace the glo-bar or could there be another problem and solution that prevents the bake fire to ignite?

Kenmore electric range model 790 oven stopped functioning, both broiler and bake. however, oven light still comes on.

I believe there is a thermal fuse (also called a TCO or Thermal Cut-Out) located either on the back of the oven, or between the top of the oven and the cooktop that has opened up. Did this happen after running a self-clean cycle?

Viking oven broiler will not ignite

Your gas valve would be my first guess. Is this broiler (and bake ) lit with a glow coil or spark probe that goes (goes click, click, to light)??
If spark probe, you will have to replace either gas valve or spark board.
If glow bar lights the broil but does not glow, then replace glow coil.

Bake does not work but broiler does.

OK, it is likley that the oven ignitor isn't working and needs to be replaced. To verify if this is the problem, when you turn on the oven to BAKE and set the temp at say, 350. Watch through the window, (or you can have the door open). Look at the bottom, back, center and see if you see a bright orange glow appearing under the bottom panel.

If you don't, that is why the oven won't lit the gas. There is an ignitor for both the broiler burner at the top and for the bake burner in the oven compartment.

The reason that the temp display reverts to 100 degrees is because that is the lowest default temp setting for the display and until the oven temp actually starts to increase, it won't change. So the temp display is working correctly for the BAKE function.

Here's a line drawing showing the part you may need. Ignitor Part # WB13T10045. The good news is that your oven uses the same ignitor for both the broiler and bake burner tubes, so you could swap them if you wish to confirm that is the problem before you go and order/buy a new one. These aren't cheap at $91 bucks, but you can shop around the web for a better price if you determine you need one.

Sometimes the ignitor burns out half way through but because it still lits/glows, people think it's OK, but it won't get hot enough to signal the gas valve to open and allow gas to ignite and get the oven cooking.

Hope this helps you out and remember to disconnect the oven from the electric power before performing any repair work. Best regards!

The oven gas does not come on? Top and Broiler does. Oven igniter does glow

If your oven won't bake, check these:

Bake igniter
Other causes
Bake igniter Usually when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake igniter is weak or burned out. The igniter is a small, round or rectangular device, that's about 1 inch by 4 to 8 inches. It's near the burner itself.

The burner is the tube-type device the gas flows through before it's ignited. It has many small holes on the sides to let the gas, when ignited, form a long, low flame. If the igniter is weak, if it glows red but doesn't get hot enough, or if it's burned out, the gas doesn't flow to the burner and the burner won't ignite. If this is the problem, you may need to replace either the igniter or the gas safety valve. Usually the igniter is to blame.

Other causes Other reasons that your oven may not bake are:

  • The clock settings are incorrect (if you have timed baking or a self-cleaning oven).

  • The thermostat is defective.

  • The safety valve that prevents accidental gas flow is defective.

  • The selector switch is defective.

The gas oven won't ignite BUT the broiler will

If the oven broiler lights, but the bake manifold does not, you more than likely have a bad igniter. There is a separate igniter for the bake and broil manifolds. Since the bake feature gets used more frequently, it is common for it to wear out faster. The following link explains oven igniters:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

You can remove the bottom panel of the oven and the flame spreader to get a good view of the igniter for an initial visual inspection. NOTE: Just because an igniter glows, does not mean it is good. As I stated before, they do become weaker with age and may not produce enough current to open the gas valve. I hope this information helps you. Please post back with your complete model number if you require additional assistance.
