After approx. 20 minutes of viewing a program, the television picture will change from being perfect to being separated on the edges particularly the red. When pulling up the convergence screen, you cannot adjust red on the sides but the middle is still somewhat aligned. Is this something we can fix ourselves? Where do we get the part?
I had this exact problem, and I read that several tvs had the poor solder joint issue and poor thermal compound allowing the IC to overheat. However I didn't trust myself to figure out which part it may be or perform any repair myself so I called a repair man. He tested the IC on the test points and determined the IC itself was bad, not just the soldering unfortunately. I did ask him specifically if resoldering would work and, assuming he was honest, he said it wouldn't. Good luck. I've posted this same answer to a few others that sound like they had the same problem and mentioned my repair cost was about $350.
There are two possibilities here:
1) There are poor solder connections at the pins of the convergence ICs.
2) The heat sink compound has failed behind the ICs and they are failiing due to heat.
If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the ICs first. These are large black ICs attached to a large heatsink and will be marked STKxxx. Also, remove the screws holding the ICs to the heatsink and see if the compound behind the ICs is still there. If not, add some.
Update this with your results.
Thanks,
Dan

I have the same problem. However, mine does not return after cooling. I can solder, so does anyone know were to get the chips?
