Wallpapers are images that appear in the background on your Desktop, behind all your icons. To change your Desktop wallpaper, do the following:

  • Click anywhere on the Desktop that is not an icon, but click once with your right hand mouse button
  • A menu pops up. The one below

My desktop icons are highlighted in colors and wen i put a wallpaper the color comes on top of it how to remove it ?

If you want to hide your icons, right click on your desktop(your screen). A window will appear and put your pointer on view. Another window will open and at the bottom you will see "show desktop icons " with a check mark. Click on this and your icons will be hidden. To get them back do it again.

hi Louise

get an 8G USB thumb drive( USB memory stick) take all your files and place into USB drive
if you cant get access to the files, you no choice but to restore to factory settings, and lose all data.
The sequence to initate restore on XP is CTRL-F11 at the Dell screen

you will have to check if you have a recovery partition, go to START, right click on MY COMPUTER , click manage. Select management. It will show you if you have a extra partition in there. if so, reboot. At the Dell screen press and hold CTRL, right after the Dell screen goes away hit F11. Select options from there.

thi is for Dell mini 10 with Wondows XP

hope this helps

Dell - No icons or start button

to get your Icons back try this.
  1. Right-click the desktop.
  2. Point to Arrange Icons By.
  3. Click Show Desktop Icons.
I would also try this.
Another quick shot, is goto Start, Run, type "msconfig", and click the tab saying DIAGNOSTIC. click apply, restart, and see if your icons are there.

Then I would run a virus scan. you could have a virus on the machine. I recommend MalwareBytes for virus removal. you can get it at www.Download.com

You been infected with Worm or Trojan Virus, that is why you cannot open your Desktop Properties. To make sure it open again keep updating your Antivirus and use such Trojan Remover to remove such malicious files inside. Trust me its works, Good luck!

Desktop keeps rebooting, not the system, just the desktop

Hi
Sorry to hear about this happening. What was the last true function that your computer done that was "correct"?

From run type
cmd,
restore option from Start; all programs; asscessories; system restore.

From run, type msconfig will show you the programs you are running. might be able to locate the file you mention above.
hope it helps

Spyware/Malware lockout the wallpaper feature, I would suggest a good anti-virus program like Avast-Free. schedule a Boot time scan, reboot and watch the fun.

System stuck

Try pressing F8 on boot up and when you get into safe mode, highlight the line that reads, last known good configuration. Press enter and the system should reboot and start correctly. If you still have no joy, you will have to do a windows repair using your windows cd.
