alright I'm assuming it's a hardware problem or something because i've gone to the hp site, i've tried the hp application tools and installed the driver from there and no can do. any other ideas by any chance? even if the driver isn't installed when you click the sound icon on the control panel and click the hardware tab...even if the driver isn't installed wouldn't it show realtek on there? because it doesn't. it shows the audigy se which i can't install the driver for for some reason but not that.. i appreciate all the help guys

post the moake and model of your soundcard here, ill try to find you a workable driver.

also check the device manager (start-settings-control panel-system-hardware tab-device manager)for an entry marked with a yellow ! or ?, these mean that a driver is corrupt, missing or not working.

In that case , right click on the marked item, then click uninstall.

this is done so that the computer will not see the device as installed when you try to load drivers.

One more thing.. you mentioned you installed a sound blaster audigy, did you disable the realtec/onboard sound for the motherboard in the BIOS. there should be a setting to disable it there. this could cause the computer NOT to see the sound blaster..

Problem getting recovery disk

I understand that you want to reinstall the Operating System on the computer. Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the computer. To start the system recovery:
  1. Restart the computer
  2. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the Alt and F10 keys repeatedly.
  3. When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.
  4. After the system recovery program has loaded, follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails during the recovery, recovery of the operating system will need to be from Recovery Media.
  1. Insert the disk labeled System CD into the computer's disk drive and restart the computer.
  2. When the eMachines logo appears on the screen, press the F12 key repeatedly.
  3. Select either CDROM or DVD as the boot device, this may vary depending on the system.
  4. When prompted for the Recovery CD, remove the System CD and insert the Recovery CD.
  5. Note: If there are multiple Recovery CDs, please insert the first Recovery CD.
  6. After the system recovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

Refer the URL for more information and for the link to order the Recovery media if required.

Cant reinstall XP asks for restore plus cd!!!

Dear Sir,

Welcome to Fixya Support.

According to your problem description,it seems that you formatted your computer hard disk by connecting it to another PC.If it is yes.
Your Hard Disk completely formatted along with your windows drive i.e C drive. So you have to reinstall operating system by using recovery or restore plus CD supplied along with your PC.Restore plus cd means a CD which is having operating system files, and needed when operating system fails to boot.If you purchased Genuine operating system along with your PC,you should have recovery or operating system CD.
if you are not having recovery CD,you can use windows XP CD for fresh installatin of your operating system

I think it helps.

If you any difficulty leave a comment,we were happy to assist you.

Want to wipe hard drive on dell dimension 8250

You don't need a recovery cd (or any other cd) to wipe the hard drive. Boot to a command prompt and type "format c:"

Reinstalling your operating system is the only time you need a recovery cd. If you have no way to reinstall your operating system, don't wipe the hard drive.

I had to have hard drive replaced. Now I am having trouble booting up recovery disks.

did you format and reinstall your os first?

also if you started from scratch, some programs that need to be there are not, so your recovery disc may not work.

I make back up files of all my exe., and setups. I also keep all zip files..put them on cd.

so in case i crash or worst case have to re format a drive, i reinstall the os, and i have all programs on cd.
