You can only put a password to the spreadsheet but there's no time expiration option, perhaps it isn't possible to do it.. Its an MS Excel limitation.

How we protect the excel sheet by password.

follow these steps to password-protect Excel file
Step 1: Save your *.xls Excel file Point to the File Menu, click save as and input the file name then the *.xls file is saved on your local disc. Point to "Tools" - "Options". When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "Security" tab.
Step 2: Choose the password protect type • If you don't wish other users to view your Excel workbook, enter a password in the "Password to open" box, and then click OK.
• If you agree other users to view your Excel workbook but don't want them make changes to the workbook, type a password in the "Password to modify" box.
• If you wish to use a different encryption settings type, click Advanced, choose an encryption setting type you want in the list, and then click OK. And you can also specify the number of characters in the Choose a key length box.
Step3: Confirm your password After type your password, a "Confirm Password" box will prompted, retype your passwords to confirm, then click OK.

I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE MY EXCEL FILE IN READ ONLY MODE

amjbritto,

There are two ways to do this, depending on what extent you want to protect the spreadsheet.

Windows Read-Only method:
  1. Save and Close the Excel file.
  2. Using Windows Explorer, locate the Excel file in its folder.
  3. Right-click on the file name
  4. Click on "Properties" at the bottom of the drop-down window.
  5. Check the [x] Read-Only box and [OK]
  6. * DONE *
Excel "Protect" Method:

  1. Open the Excel spreadsheet that you want to protect
  2. On the top menu, select [Tools]
  3. Click [Protection] on the drop-down menu
  4. Select [Protect Workbook]
  5. Check [x]Structure and [x]Windows
  6. Enter a password if you wish, but remember it!
  7. Click [OK]
  8. Save and close the spreadsheet and test the protection.
  9. *DONE *
Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I unlock an excel spreadsheet which has password protection (lost). I am using Mac Excel not Windows

A) Open document > Select edit menu > choose select all > then choose copy from edit menu.
Open new document > edit menu> paste.
Select tools menu> choose options> window opens with options. Select form different tabs the edit tab> make sure that al desired boxes are selected.
Select save tab>choose and mark box>ask about properties
accept or Apply options and close.
Save new document different name. When saving it should ask if you want to save properties> choose not save. Maybe it asks if you want to modify properties> choose yes> select box archive amongst read only, hidden or archive.
If this does not work.
B)There are many 3rd party utilities which claim to reset forgotten word password:
The program that I recommend is the Excel Password Recovery 5.0 It recovers/removes the "Password to Open" and "Password to Edit" for you to view and edit the document freely.

Excel password remove

if the password protection is on a spreadsheet and not the whole program; save the spreadsheet with a different name you can then edit the spreadsheet at will.
if the password is on the whole program you will have to reinstall the program and remove the old copy

Forgot password to open Excel sheet

If you mean that you can open the Workbook and read the Worksheet - then all you have to do is select all and paste it to another Worksheet. This will allow for changes of formulas etc.

If you mean the whole Workbook - then I dunno.

In future, either use the same password for everything (easy to remember) or Protect the work with nothing entered into the password field (leave this blank). This last will protect the work from people who try to guess your password, but will be easy for you to remember - eg every password is left blank.

If you must use unique passwords, then keep a record of them somewhere other than on your computer.

Sorry I can't help with the "Workbook" solution - but somebody else out ther may be able to do so.
