I'm having trouble charging my ipod shuffle. When I pluge it in it doesn't charge. I don't see the light indicating that it's being charged.

  1. borrow a friends cable
  2. Try moving the cable around, you might have damaged the cable
  3. make sure there is nothing in the ipod connection, a bit of dust could make it so there is no connection

Everytime i plug in my ipod its not showing that it's connected

Okay, don't freak out. What we'll do is systematically check the different points where a problem could be hiding, correct it or eliminate it, and then you can return to your normal iPodding. This could be no big deal so let's check the small stuff first, then we'll test the software.

Before we go ahead and troubleshoot your problem, lets quickly run through this checklist, just to make sure it is not something obvious:

  • Check your connections (USB fully plugged in? iPod connected?).
  • Plug the iPod directly into the computer (don't use a USB hub).
  • Try a different USB port.
  • Use a different cable (ask a friend if you can borrow their USB cable).
  • Remove all the other USB connections (sometimes other USB devices can cause a conflict).
  • Try this:
    • Unplug your iPod
    • Close all programs that are currently running.
    • Plug in your iPod.
    • Open iTunes.
  • Try rebooting the computer
ipod_notmounting_troushoot.gif If any of these steps got your iPod to show up in iTunes, make note of what was causing the problem, then continue to enjoy your iPodding lifestyle.

you have a broken hold switch, possibly the slider is just disconnected from the actual switch, maybe a torn ribbon cable. if you are not under warranty you can try to fix it yourself : iPod classic repair guide.

Blank screen

first of all try to do a hard reset: press menu button and center (action) button at the same time for 5 sec. be sure to try this a few times before you consider the iPod broken. if it doesn't respond to this you have a broken motherboard. bring it back to apple if you're under warranty, otherwise order a logic board on ebay there are free ipod repair guides that show you how to install it.

My ipod is locked

Okay well if its locked then you can push the button to have it unlocked at the top, but if its frozen locked then you need to hold down the center button and the menu button at the same time for at least 10 seconds and then let go. Should reset.

My ipod wont recharge

If you are using the same charging cable, you might check the cable. Borrow a friends cable to see if you can charge and if you can charge with someone elses cable, buy a new one for yourself.

if it is under warrenty, free from apple. If not, it would cost less to just replace it.
