There is quite a bit more info anyone would need for you to get assistance for this.

You said you have a 3-gang switch. Do you have a bank with 3 switches in a row? Does the power for the external light go through the box you are trying to put the switch into?

You Need to Test with a electric tester and Identify a Hot and a nuetral in t the Box. If you find them that is what you need AT LT.If you are missing either you will have to add it. 3W switches can be installed numerous ways.If you have More info let me know.

Do you have a permanent live supply to the 3rd switch, it doesn;t sound as if you do, you could loop one out of one of the other switches then connect your light switch wire to the awitch terminal, don't forget you also need a neutral for the light to work.

Only work on electricity wiring if you are competent to do so or have work checked if you are in any doubt.

Help - 1 Way 2 gang switch - ie: two sets of lights in same room, 1 light switch with two switches on it, each switching on 1 set of lights. I have 2 brown wires, 3 blue wires, and a short length of free...

I can probably help.
BUT, what voltage are you working with. It sounds like 230V european wire colors?
Now also. Do you have two separate light switches in same box (which is called 2-gang)? Or do you have a double switch, which is two switches on one device?
Add a comment, and include as much detail as possible about the switch, voltage, and number and color of screws on each switch.
Here is a start-point using 120Volt and US wire colors:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-switches.html#double
The difference between US and European, is that European has two hot wires, while US has hot and neutral wires. Otherwise both systems require two wires to complete circuit.

How to connect three gang switch to control three lights, using two 1mm double core

What is 1mm double core?
Following image shows example 120Volt 4 gang switches with outlet.
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Single-pole-switches-in-4-g.jpg
Each 120Volt electrical box has one Hot wire. This is true for ceiling and wall boxes.
Normally in a gang box, the Hot wire jumpers across all devices in the box.
Some switch boxes do not have Neutral wire. Neutral wires are usually white, and are twisted together and covered with wire nut and shoved to back of box.
Open following links for typical 120V and 240V circuits in US.

Feel free to add a comment and describe wiring, and voltage.
For example if hot wire arrives from one of the lights.
Describe the wires that you have, and what each wire goes to for best possible answer.

How do i wire a 3 gang switch

Open following links for images of 3-gang and 4-gang single-pole switches.
With the 4 gang, just subtract one of the switches.

If you have a 3-way switch, or outlet in the box, then add a comment with more exact information about what wires you are trying to connect, what color wires you have, and what you have tried so far. This will narrow down the possible answers and speed help.

Upvote the help.

I have got one power cable going to a 2 gang switch and need to feed two seperate lights off it.

Hello.
All whites are marretted together,
  • white power - white 1st light - white 2nd light
Blacks are the return for each light, and are joined after passing through the switches,
  • black FROM 1st light - top of switch - bottom of same switch - black power AND other black from 2nd light (see next step)
  • (repeat of above) black From 2nd light - top of 2nd switch - bottom of 2nd switch - black power AND black from 1st light
NOTE: both switch blacks are marretted together to the black of power. Ground all 3 as normal to dblgang box. Total marrettes required is two (three if using one for grounds) Hope this helps. If so, please rate a four-thumbs up, Thank You.

Have a thyrocon dimmer, says on the bottom, 0180, also 600 w single gang, 500 w two gang, and 400 w three gang, 120 ac volt, the top that turns the dimmer on and off broke, went to Lowe's and Home Depot,...

http://www.lutron.com/Products/StandAloneControls/Dimmers-Switches/Pages/DimmersSwitches.aspx

Lutron shows widest selection of dimmers.
The wattages you posted are standard for multiple dimmers.

Once you identify type of dimmer, add a comment and say if dimmer is single-pole or 3-way.
A 3-way dimmer would be in a hallway, where more than 1 device controls same lights.
Single pole is where one device controls lights.

If I know what dimmer you have, I can search for the product and add another comment.

Or search for yourself:
For example, let's say you have 3-way Skylark dimmer.
Do a google search for 3-way skylark dimmer:
http://www.google.com/search?q=3-way+skylark+dimmer&ie=u
Or 3-way rotary dimmer, etc.

If information above doesn't help, then take advantage of fixya phone service.
Fixya expert can talk with you over the phone for a price.

Both sides are being used in my gang box. How do I add a third? Is it possible?

if it is a plastic box, you have to take to box out of the wall and install a tri-gang box.
if it is a metal box, then you can take anothre one take off one side panel andone side panel from the gang and screw them together.
