HP L7580 printer prints mirror image

Out of the blue, this printer began mirror imaging--as if you needed it for an overhead projector.

Pls note that my only choice below is a 7680--and our printer is a 7580

We have a HP L7680 & PC running XP SP3, After the
installation of the SP3 the mirror image problem started and I cannot get rid
    of it..

  • Philgo Nov 15, 2008

I have just installed SP3 and have the same problem. I can clear the 'mirror image mode' by printing a test page on the printer which resets the 'mirror image mode' - until it happens next time!!! This suggests that a wrong escape sequence is being sent to the printer.

  • Philgo Nov 15, 2008

I have turned of the Mirror Image setting in my advanced settings - it still prints a mirror image. The fix is no good for me.

I print from a Vista Laptop to an XP Desktop. HP3840 shared network printer. Comes out mirrored every time. Can't solve the problem

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2009

The 7680 continues to print mirror image even though the settings are correct. This is a networked printer/fax.

  • mwhitney6 Jan 18, 2009

Same problen. Deskjet connected by USB to PC with XP. Second PC with Vista added to network prints to DJ6540 prints mirror image. All Mirror Imade boxes unchecked. (Checking a mirrir image box does not mirror the mirror!)

Note: based on othewr posters this appears to be a common problem with mixes XP and Vista networks and HP printers.

I have the same problem, it seems if I am printing double sided for the first time I don't have a problem. Once I select the single sided, then back again I get this mirror printing effect. Any one with a solution please.

  • Go to the Printers Menu and select Add Printer
  • Add a Local Printer
  • Create a new port - type: local port
  • For the port name, enter the share of your printer on the remote computer.  For example, if your computer name is superDesktop and the printer share name is megaPrinter, you'd type in \\superDesktop\megaPrinter.
  • Finish the wizard and you're done, printing normally!

That only works once. After rebooting the "mirror image on" problem comes back. How can I permanently turn it off?

Thanks

You need to update your drivers to the latest version as this is a bug with the older drivers and the default "duplex" / "two sided printing" shortcut.

The problem and solution is provided here:

Go into your printer options and look under advanced. There is a box that can be checked "ON" for mirror image. Use the dropdown menu to change the option to "OFF". This worked on my printer.

On my HP printer it called this option "Flip horizontally" which then works as above.

When I print pics off my pic file, the pic comes out in a mirror image? I am using a HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One Printer. Also when I try to print 4x6 pics from my files using proper HP paper, it tells...

Hello,

When you go to print something next time, click on Preferences on the Print window. Click on the Advanced tab. There should be a Mirror Image choice and it probably says ON. Click on the ON and change it to OFF with the drop-down menu. Click OK. That should correct the mirror image problem.

As for the paper, I have a hard time printing on 4X6 paper too. Seems to be a common problem with HP. If you would like to accept the mirror image solution and post a separate on, you should get another expert to help you.

In the meantime I will try to research it further.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I would have said Gotta be setting in your print dialogue box, but if the test page comes out as mirror image, must be
a setting on printer control somewhere

Mirror Image printing

This is caused by an early driver version provided with the printer.

Download the latest version from the HP website, unplug your printer from your computer then uninstall your existing driver. Once that's successfully completely install the new driver version.

Unfortunately this doesn't always resolve the problem straight away so you may need to repeat this.

To check if you've resolved the problem:
- Go to START > Printers & Faxes
- Locate your L7780 printer
- right click and choose "printing preferences"
- choose the "Two-Sided (Duplex) printing" printing shortcut
- click on the "Advanced" tab
- look at the setting for "Mirror Image"... If you've succeeded this should now be set to "Off"... If it's "On" you still have a problem.

The problem itself is caused by some duff default settings which seem to stick whenever you've done anything that uses the "Two-Sided (Duplex) printing" Printing shortcut provided in the printing preferences.

In particular I've seen this crop up with PDF files...

The new driver does seem to resolve this but a further work around is to define a new duplex setting that has the correct "Advanced" settings and has "Mirror image" set to Off.

This solution also works for the K5400, L7580, L7680, etc...

Mirror images only

hopefully you have fixed this problem by now----if not, go to control panel bt clicking start then settings or could be start then control panel. WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS THE PRINTERS AND FAXES FOLDER. once you have found that, right click on the HP Officejet Pro L7500 Series (or whatever your printer name is) and choose printing preferences. go to the advance tab. look for mirror image and click on it you will be given a small drop down to toggle it from on to off----choose off and the click on apply and then OK.
