I have an older (1993,I believe 20" TV. (I have posted this problem several times previously). When I get to channel 19 there is a B posted beneath the 19. I then know from previous experience that that I can only go to 25 (out of about 70) and it returns to 3. I

I have explained and explained all there is to be explained and I have sent first $9.00 and then today $9.99. What "others".

  • phildreth Oct 14, 2008

You apparently do not have a running record of my previous emails because I have provided the model number already. Is AV20TP4. Sorry I was in the wrong pew previously, I do not even know what what a projectile TV is.

I have had this problem previously and some how made it go away but it eventually comes back. Thank you for your assistance. If I was charged $9.99 today it should go to to your department.

  • phildreth Oct 23, 2008

No Oct 14th I received a "solution" to my problem. It read "pork and beans". What kind of an asinine answer is that?

  • phildreth Oct 23, 2008

Then on Oct. 20th it says "send the board to pts. What does that mean? I have actually repaired this problem previously but it was somehow by accident and it always came back.

  • phildreth Oct 27, 2008

I do not know yet. For now the TV has healed itself but I am sure the problem will reoccur in the future. Thank you for your help. I am told that depending on the cost of the part, this will cost somewhere around $90.00. Does that sound reasonable and do you think I could order the part and do it myself?

Since its 1993 model TV so it doesn't worth to be repaired any more. its 15 years old.
Best option is to buy new TV with new technology and facilities.

Why don't you explain your problem instead of worrying about feeding others

There is a circuit that is called character generator and displays the channel number, that can be faulty, and the channels are stored on eeprom memory chips on the tuner board, that can also be defective.

If you post the exact model number we can try to be more specific, and find the parts, but the TV should be fixed by a technician.

Unfortunately does not look like a setting problem, or something that you can easily fix.

If you have not done it before, try unplugging the TV power cable for a couple of hours, so to drain power completely.

Give me all the details you find on your model, if I go offline I will post within 24.

At least I can give you the cost of the replacement, so that you will know if it is worth repairing.

47led55sa half the screen is black

Hello Kathy, now since i dont have a picture of the screen i cannot tell exactly what is wrong, but if i had to take a well educated guess it would be that one of the wired that feed into the screen is damaged or faulty . Take it to your local tech shop and they can fix this problem easily, though rates differ from place to place i would give a rough assumtion of $25-$30 for a proper fix. Hope this helped ;)

No there is no reset inside you will need to have it repaired. Should not be a big problem your looking at approx. $200 to $300 for repair could be more if some out of normal shutdown problem.

try unplugging the tv overnight, then plugging it in when you want to watch it.

i guess there is some safety switch on the processor inside the tv itself that kicks itself on...stupid.

No Picture

Turn off the TV, unplug it if possible and wait 10 minutes and plug it in and turn it on.
If you still have the bliue screen and are feeding the TV with cable or antenna there may be a signal problem or digital signal level problem.
If you still have a blue screen and are feeding audio and video seperately in could be a cableing problem. If not there may be a video input menu item that was changed. You would have to check the menu items.

sounds solder related. I would guess the vertical output IC or flyback needs resoldering, As the vertical will shutdown the picture if the solder looses contact, and the flyback feeds the filament voltages to light the tubes. Solder repair is usually the cause when you lose picture but have sound.

Flashing picture when start up

What i would do id purchase a can of freeze from radio shack
wait till the picture is good then freeze one ic at a time till the problem shows up, once it shows up let it warm back up and refreeze to make sure you got the correct part.
found this on anther site:
My first guess is an electrolytic cap in the main power supply and/or a voltage regulator that feeds the deflection amplifiers.

The cost of repair is not much; the greatest challenge is finding the bad cap because there are so many of them and scattered through out the sections.

If you have a scope and can look at some waveforms and voltages around the deflection and power supply feeds you may be able to zero in on it right away

The unit is going in to shutdown. There is a short in the unit. My guess would be the HOT and or Flyback are bad.
