Re: Reconfigure as a WAP only
Do not use a cross over cable, use a normal cat5 patch cable connected from one of the lan ports on the other router to the wan port of this router.
Configure this router to obtain ip address automatically (like it would be configured to connect to a cable ISP)
Turn off DHCP on this device.
That should do it. If it does not, let me know because some router want a static route configured.
If you want 2 seperate networks with internet access, leave the dhcp on but change the internal address so that it is different from the other router.
ie: if the other router is 192.168.0.1, this one can be 192.168.x.1 (where x is anything but 0)

You cannot use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to connect directly to your IPS's modem. A WAP does not provide the ability to share a single IP address on the internet like a router does.
Either return the WAP for a refund and buy a wireless router or buy an Ethernet wired-only router and plug the WAP into the LAN side of that router. You would then plug the WAN side of the Ethernet wired router into your modem.
If you have forgotten your LinkSys router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.
To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.
jQuery('#jsArticleStep2 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a02/2p/6m/reset-password-linksys-router-1.2-800X800.jpg');
Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and reconfigure it again.
To reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router. LinkSys Default Password
On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."
Once you are past the login screen, you are able to reconfigure the LinkSys router. You want to go to the management tab and change the administrator password to something else to keep others from accessing your router.
After changing the administrator password then you will need to enable WEP or WAP security so your nosy neighbors aren't tapping into your wireless network. I am picking up 4 networks with my pc antenna.
Hi. I would suggest that you chane the cross cable into a straight cable configuration, so that both router can transmit signal at the same time and might solve the issue of intermitent connection failure. Hope this Helps
To access the configuration page of the Dlink router, use a wired computer or directly connect your laptop to the router using an ethernet cable. Then open any internet browser and in the address bar type: 192.168.0.1.
Select Admin from the drop-down arrow and then enter your password. Leave the password blank by default. If it doesn't work, then you will need to reset the router.
At the back of the router there is a reset button, hold it down for 30 seconds.
Then try again to access the router. Reconfigure the router's internet connection, depending on your ISP. Under Setup>Internet page, click the Internet connection Setup Wizard button to automatically configure the router.
Then for the wireless settings, go to Setup>Wireless Settings page, then click on the Wireless Network Setup Wizard to configure the wireless settings.
Not a good sign. Have you tried resetting? You'll find a reset 'hole' on back of router. Press and hold with a pin for 15 seconds or until lights go out and come back on. Upon resetting, you will need to reconfigure. Disconnect sat/cable modem while doing this. Use the passcode and admin URL address on bottom/back of router to get to configuration. Should also power off modem and power back on when done configuring to reset the Internet connection.
Please re-post if you need help with configuring the router.
I might advise you to reconfigure the DI-514 Wireless Router, Access the IP address 192.168.0.1 using the Internet browser and configure as Dynamic IP address. You got a red light because the router is not configure yet or no Internet connection from your provider.
plug a laptop straight into the router with a cable. then open an internet browser and type in 192.168.0.1 type in the username and password. the default will be admin for username and password for password. then close the browser and unplug the cable. it might detect wireless internet after a few seconds. if it doesn't, it is possible that you have a PC set up as the internet gateway for the laptops or something, so when you introduce encryption the laptops can't get access. in which case you should go to your wireless icon on the laptop and click that and open the connection list. double click on the wap secured connection and try to connect. it should ask for a username and password, which you have secured the wireless encryption with. enter that and it should connect to the gateway. dunno if this helps, good luck chris email@example.com
The CD is actually just a guide in configuring your router. You can still configure/use it even without the setup CD. If you need to reinstall/reconfigure your router, please provide the model number of the router and your Internet service provider (cable or DSL) so I can help you.
Is your issue with the router's administrative password to used to configure the router?
Please confirm your router's manufacturer and model number.
IF not go to Wireless Configuration
If the router needs to be reset (because of an unknown password) do you know the proper settings to
reconfigure the router? If not or even if unsure please provide your
Internet Service Provider's name so we can get accurate instructions before proceeding any further on this password issue.
Is your issue with the passphrase/password for a wireless adapter to
access a secured wireless network using either WEP or WAP encryption?
Do you have another wireless computer that works? -- you may be able to find the passphrase in the configuration of that machine's wireless adapter avoiding the need to have the administrators password for the router for the time being.
