Digital Thermostats

I would like to change my heater thermostat (I have the 20-30 year old
round thing where you move the dial, it has 2 thermometer readings, one for
what you want and one for what the temp is). My contractor recommends
Honeywell for $150. I'm going to look in Home Depot for a better price if
possible. Any suggestions? Thanks

Sure. My cheapie even has a nifty little indicator that turns on
every year to remind my to change the furnace filter. Too bad
I have radiators...

Hi, Shaun.
Just installed one of those, HW 3600 as I recollect. $90. No central a/c,
so two wires, three batteries, two screws.

Programming pretty simple, 2 up-s & 2 down-s per day.

John

We got a knock off for $30 or so- works just fine for us. It has
weekday and weekend settings, just put in the times and thermostat
temperatures and let it go. It doesn't have all those nifty
features, but it does the job.

And figure, I'd need to have 5 of them go bad out of warranty before
reaching the cost of a single fancy unit...

I have a Honeywell that works great and it's way less than $150. I
subsequently found out that the next-higher model has a nice feature-- instead
of telling it what time to START warming the house, you tell it what time you
want it to BE warm. The thermostat has a 'memory' and remembers how long it
took to heat the house the past week (an average, I think) and thus starts
heating at the appropriate time.

This feature saves heating the house up too early as well as the problem of
coming home from work during a cold spell and finding out that the house is
still cold.

It's well worth the extra ten bucks!

You might want to take a look at the wireless 7 day programmable thermostat
that we offer. You can roam up to 500 feet from the wall mounted receiver
(which replaces your existing thermostat using the existing wiring). It has
the following features:

You can control temperature, fan, and mode (heat, cool, Auto, Off) from the
remote control.

You can read the present temperature on the remote control backlit LCD
screen.

You can program your schedules and setbacks from the remote control.
You can even program Fan only operation for a preset amount of minutes each
hour.

You can have up to 4 remote controls to place in different rooms of your
house (on your bedroom nightstand, etc.). The remote control has a swing
out stand (like
a picture frame) so it will stand upright so the display is visible.

It works with single and dual stage heating and cooling systems.

You can find out more details about this new product and see an picture of
it at: #

If it's the one I've had my eye on, HD has it for $49 (I think) and Hechinger
has it for $54. I guess the $150 is the installed price. Installation should
take about 15 minutes.
