Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

Dell Inspiron 1501 Power Cord will not stay put

I am having two problems with this machine. First, my power cord will no longer stay put. I have seen this problem with other laptops to the point where they became unusable. I can get my power cord into the port and it will rest there but with the slightest movement or tug out it goes. I am now using wall tack around the port to try and keep it plugged in but I know this will not work forever. Is there anything else I can do?
Second my backspace key has come off. I spent some time trying to put it back on. I can't seem to get the plastic U and O peice to fit. I have also lost the rubber bit that sits on the sensor.
Thank you for any help/sugestions

Thanks for your help Quitmanst. I was hoping that the cord was damaged not the jack. I went through this with an Acer recently and had to scrap the laptop. As for the keyboard, I am looking for something smaller. I already priced a new key bored (around 60$) and I don't have that right now. I was hoping that maybe someone might know a trick I could try.

With your first problem: If the power cord is not damaged, it is most likely the DC jack in the computer is damaged. A new one can be soldered on the motherboard in most cases. It's a 50/50 chance that it will work though. The second problem: The only fix I can offer is to purchase a new keyboard for the laptop and replace it. Hope this helps.

Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop - The charger is plugged into a working outlet, and the little green light on the charger is on, but on the actual laptop, the little indicator in the top right is not on....

Sounds like the battery needs to charge and the power cord is loose in it's plug. is this possible? Carefully try to discover if that is the cause. DON'T reef the power plug around in it's hole. It's possible the connection is isn't staying in contact in the plug. Try gently holding it in place awhile after turning on PC, so you can tell if that's it. If so, you may have to replace that jack. There's a video online that shows you how in very exact detail, or you can take it to the shop. I don't recall where i found the video, but I Googled to find it. Google is your friend. Sometimes when it does what you describe, it works to unplug, take out battery, press power on for 2 minutes, then replace battery & cord. That resets it. Worked with my Dell about 15 times, then it stopped working, as my power jack needs replaced. I got a new battery before I knew that. The jack is famous for this problem. the battery can't charge if it's not getting power.

Have dell inspirion 1501 no lites come on with power cord or with battery. nothing happens.

First try a different AC adapter, see if the system will power on.
If no change, then the failure is most likely the motherboard

Dell Inspiron 1501, replaced battery and power cord

Power on the laptop without the battery in the unit. If it powers on, then place the battery in and it will start to charge. Sometime the Dell laptop will not see the battery when it is replaced.
