Question about Dishwashers

4 Answers

I have an LG dishwasher, model LDS 5811WW. Just after start up the error code "LE" comes on and the cycle shuts down. I have tried a couple of different cycles and they both react the same. Several other codes are found in the owners manual but not this one??

I'm just posting here to clear this from My Work Queue. There may be another cause for your code, but it only applies to certain serial numbers. If you want to know about it, do an ASK ME, otherwise good luck with your repair. Please don't bother to rate this. Thanks.

Hi,

To my knowledge, on most LG dishwasher, "LE" error code indicates that the motor is not turning. This however could mean three (3) possibilities:

  • the motor is defective;
  • the RPM sensor is defective;
  • the controller board is defective.
In some instances, it could just be the wires/connectors to the motor or controller board that are loose or faulty.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi gr,

The 'LE' error message indicates the control board has detected that the motor is either not turning, or has locked up for some reason. Monitoring the motor is the job of the hall effect sensor board which constantly determines the direction and speed of the motor and feeds that information back to the control board. If there is a problem between what the motor should be doing and what the hall effect sensor says the motor is doing, the 'LE' will be displayed and the cycle will be stopped.

I suggest if your not mechanical to call a certified repairman.

It is probably a problem with the timer control, in that case you will need to replace it, let me check.

LDS 5811ww- permanent draining

Remove the front panel - In the crack where the top and front meet about 2 inches over from each edge there are clips you push in with a putty knife or flat blade screwdriver and the front releases at the top and un hooks from the bottom. Now put washer in the spin cycle. right in front at bottom is the motor and on top of the motor is a silver colored part ( the inverter) look in between the motor and the inverter on the right about 2 inches back - you should see a green light that is flashing ( it may help to darken the room) Tell me how many times it is flashing.

I have attached a diagram of the motor to help.7edbc65.jpg

Motor removal

I am having a same problem. You can open dishwasher sump assembly from inside the dishwasher and check if something is blocking white impeller. I tried to open impeller and sheared screw head as I did't realized it is left handed screw. Even after cleaning impeller you still get problem, you need to check from bottom and see if something is stuck there. If all right and you are still getting error then it is time to replace motor. In my case I ordered entire sump assembly as my seals were also wornout. Sump assy cost $113 on Sears part direct.

Lds 5811ww dishwasher e1

LG have a history of E1 error problems.

The controller board can be one cause, however, most of these are caused by a faulty circulation pump.

The impeller breaks on the shaft and does not turn, so it doesn't produce pressure. A pressure sensor activates, bringing up the 'E1" message.

The impeller and pump are a complete assembly.

Replacing it usually fixes the problem.

LE trouble code

The LE error code can be an indication of several different issues. The most common cause is over-sudsing in the machine. Many times owners experiencing the LE error code are using regular detergent. It is recommended to use a high efficiency or low sudsing detergent. Overloading the wash with too much laundry may also cause the LE error code. Lastly, a breakdown in the signal between the microprocessor and the motor may cause the error code. This can occur if there is a loose wire, dislodged ball sensor, or if the shipping bolts are removed prior to situating the washer. Good luck!
